Went to see La Cage aux Folles on Wednesday 30th December. Was absolutely amazing! Best musical I have ever seen! The acting was superb, the show was full of comedy and very interactive eg tables in the stalls to make it look like a proper French nightclub and floating balls (no pun intended!) being batted into the audience right at the start of the show. I didn't know Denis Lawson could sing. He was the consumate professional right throughout the show and deserves some kind of award as well as the lead in the show. The leading actor being Douglas Hodge who has already won an Olivier award for his performance in this musical. Douglas Hodge was absolutely amazing in his portrayal of Alvin in the show - (unhappy transvestite looking for contentment and fulfilment in life and never finding it!) Douglas Hodge thorougly deserves his Olivier award for his performance in the show which was absolutely spellbinding! You can't take your eyes off him all evening even when dressed as a heavily made up transvestite!! Supporting cast were also brillant. Actress who played Jacqueline (can't remember her name - Tracie someone from Manchester - has been in loads of things on TV) was also fantastic! Thoroughly recommend this show to everyone - should it return again to the West End stage this year/next year or tour the country. Unfortunately last performance was on Sat 2nd Jan 2010! Would recommend seeing it if it comes to the stage again with its original cast - not Graham Norton or John Barrowman - just not the same!!

We absolutely loved this show. We are fans of the film with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. We booked at the time John Barrowman had taken over not realising he would have finished by the time we went - slightly disappointed at him not being in but once at the show that went out of our heads. We have to say Douglas Hodge was out of this world - he was hysterical and brought loads to the role. Denis Lawson was also good. We would thoroughly recommend this to anyone wanting a fun night out with loads of laughter!! Also the dancers were brilliant!

What a wonderful show, pity it is closing on 2 Jan 10. Its funny, sad and the music is just a joy. On leaving the theatre you had this nice happy feeling. Actors performed brilliantly.

Both Douglas Hodge & Denis Law were fantastic! Their voices also surprised me as they were excellent.
The whole cast were great, and it was very very funny!
Would definitely recommend!

My boyfriend and I took my elderly mother as a Boxing Day treat. We all enjoyed it thoroughly. Excellent performances from the main and supporting cast. "Showgirls" danced brilliantly with great attitude. The way they flung their legs up and over and did the splits, I'm amazed they didn't damage anything vitally male in the process! Well worth seeing. Shame it's coming to an end soon.

I saw this back on 28/11/09 and it is by far in my top 5 of musicals to date.
I went on the night of John Barrowmans last performance in the show. But I personally think that he does the character justice, he's good-looking, funny & has a great voice.
Douglas Hodge (in the show now) I'm not a fan of, I don't think he's a very good singer, I've only heard him on the Royal Variety in 2009. But I'm sure he'll be just as great as John Barrowman was.
The show in general is very camp & flamboyant, but if you're male don't let this put you off. The camp style should appeal to everyone and makes everybody laugh. There's quite a bit of audience participation so you'll be involved at some point.
Overall 5/5, fantastic show & fantastic songs.

We thought we were going to see John Barriman and so were disappointed when we arrived and saw the programme and he was no longer in it. But we needn't have been. It was an amazing evening. Hilarious at times, loved the inflatable balls in the stalls, those men had such amazing legs my female friend could not help but be envious and couldn't stop talking about them. But the most amazing thing was Douglas Hodge's performance. His comedic expressions were fantastic and the end of the first half really was a show stopper. The crowd were on their feet at the end, I only wish they could have done an encore or two. Highly recommend this to anyone.

From start to finish an amazing display of wit, warmth and wonder! The breathtaking strength of the dancers, the light touch surrounding the relationships and the truly professionalism of all concerned. Such a small cast gave an impression of a cast of thousands: the range and skill was dazzling. Denis singing was a surprise to us all and confirmed his status as one of today's leading actors. I would love to see it again but fear I may have to go with them to Broadway - still considering that.

Lots of loud brash mini 'stars' All pushing to appear at the front by being loudest and most outlandish.
I have seen many casts shows in the U/States, Canada,Australia and Europe.
This was by far the worst production. VERY amaturish.
I went with great anticipation. But was so disapointed.
LOT'S of out of key singing, Very cheap props. The show was (stopped) for the stagehands to clear up a broken drinks glass. (WHY?) Why use a real glass? Amatures?
Very disapointed. Think the show needs to be (Re-reviewed) by the cast director. etc.

A truly endearing, moving and hilarious musical by Jerry Herman, this fabulous cast delivered on all levels. John Barrowman and Simon Burke complimented each other brilliant with their perfect comdey timing, beautiful and powerful voices and wonderful charisma.
For me, this 'traditional' musical has a beautiful score taking you through the emotional highs and lows of the lives of Georges and Albin, indeed it is very very moving but you are not down for long and very soon will be laughing your socks off !
All roles are well cast and the praise indeed goes to not just the leads but to the entire cast especially the Cagelles, the dancers each taking on a character of their own and all very diffierent, Angelique, played by Dane Quixall gives funniest portrayal of a Cagelle you will ever see, and they all look absolutely gorgeous with legs to die for! These dancers are like athletes and their flexibility will bring a tear to your eye!
This was the last matinee for the current leads, Barrowman & Burke, but I would highly recommend this musical with the new cast purely based on the spectacle and talent of the Cagelles as I have not seen Hodge & Lawson to be able to comment though I hear Hodge is brilliant.

This is everything you'd expect from a show starring John Barrowman. We saw him in panto last year and only booked because he was appearing. It is fun and entertaining all round. Don't expect anything serious, but you will laugh out loud. The only thing with the venue is the seating which made viewing really difficult. I couldn't see half the stage and my friend couldn't see the other half. I appreciate the Playhouse is an old theatre but when you pay over £50 each for a ticket, you expect to see.

My daughter and I saw this show the day before John Barrowman left. We didn't know anything about it before we went and only went as other productions were full. How stupid was that.It was absolutely brilliant!!!! The cast were great and we found parts of it hilarious. Although John Barrowman has now left I think anyone would enjoy the show unless they do not like to see men dressed as women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
