After seeing Arve Henriksen as support with Dhafer Youssef for Hugh Masekela, I have sought out concerts of the Norwegian/North European jazz genre. This gig did not disappoint. From the start Bugge showed his flowing style on the piano. It was not long before he turned to the electronics to build his 'band' with his live sampling and layering. Once this was done then it was back to the beautiful notes of the keyboard.
Like with so many of the artist in this genre, his humble demeanor adds to the 'awesome-ness' (a Kung Fu Panda quote I think) of his playing. You really do feel like he is loving every note he plays.
As I live in the Midlands I do not get to go to London gigs as often as I'd like. I have only been to one other gig at the Jazz Cafe and it was a louder concert. During this gig, the very quiet moments the pauses were interrupted by diners/waiting staff 'clanking' the cutlery and it was a bit annoying. That said, it is a small price to pay for having such a laid back venue without all the usual rule and regulations. That was my only gripe and it did not affect my overall 100% rating
