Firstly I must say that the venue was beautiful, the stage was a decent size, and although there were barriers the spacing was decent. The staff were excellent at queue control and everyone was let in and stayed in an orderly fashion. The sound balance and volume was brilliant. Now on to the interesting stuff!
The Gayblades opened with a lively set, and although unknown to many the lead singer was charismatic and worked the stage well, and I can't believe their sound only came from two people, a drummer and a guitarist, amazing! I was very impressed considering I hadn't heard any of their materiel.

Jack's Mannequin came onto the stage after a short wait, Andrew said a few words about how he loved London and was glad to be here, before opening with a rousing performance of Spinning off of their latest album The Glass Passenger. Jack's Mannequin perform so well together, making each song special and unique, adding a twist to each beloved song that only improves and enhances hearing them played live, something obviously picked up from relentless touring. I can honestly say I enjoyed every moment of this concert, and the show lasted a generous amount of time with an encore featuring special performances of fan favourites.
After the show, Andrew came out to personally meet every fan who waited there, and I felt so honoured that one of my idols took the time out to thank me for coming to such an amazing show!

This was pretty much a perfect evening.

though.. you do need a new support band, sorry but they sucked.

As a set, Jacks mannequin were amazing. Although having to remain anchored to the piano 90% of the time, Andrew infuses excitement within the crowd, and lights up the room with his smile. That was something i was surprised about. With his later songs being quite deep and sentimental, i expected it to be quite a weepy gig- but it totally was not. His sadder songs are lined with hope, and you see that in his smile.
The support act i didnt enjoy at all. very cocky.
My only complains about the show would be to do with the venue. You could hardly hear the piano at all, or Andrews voice. And i was very near the front.
But go see jacks mannequin, definitely!

Having never managed to see Jack's Mannequin and having never been to KOKO before last night was all new to me but I don't think I've ever been to see a band that suited their suroundings quite as well. KOKO had space for every kind of fan to enjoy the music from the upper levels with the best views or dance the night away down on the floor.
Jack's Mannequin seemed really at home and Andrew's performance on and off the keys was spectacular, going back to Something Corporate's best loved tracks and playing some awesome intros to the songs on the The Glass Passenger as well. Can't wait for them to come back, maybe to play an even bigger venue or just to entertain the same fans who no doubt could have stood and listened for another hour or so from the band.
The Gay Blades as a supporting act did a wonderful job of winding the audience up for JM and the simple guitar and drums combo worked well for them. Should see more of them on tour I hope.
