Have been a big fan of Blur for a good many years, but had never had the chance to go to see them in a live show. When I heard they had reformed, I vowed to ensure I was first in the queue for tickets. Live nation was advertised so immediately I set about ordering tickets! I have to say it was the first gig in a long while that I was actually excited about, and all my thoughts for the day were purely Blur related! I wasn't to be disappointed either.
The opening of the gig with 'The Debt Collector' just served to boil over my excitement!! Running through favourites such as 'Tracy Jacks' and 'Girls & Boys' had me singing along at the top of my voice, but then I was with a few thousand like minded people! Damon's energy was apparent from the word go and didn't let up none as the band ripped through later classics such as 'Beetlebum', 'Song 2' and 'Coffee & TV'. The overall mix of songs was perfectly balanced between old and new, leaving us all wanting more. Definitely a band to see before one pops one's clogs, and I am so glad I now have. Park life!

After driving to London for more than 12 hours on no food or no sleep, i was actually feeling that seeing Blur would not been worth all we had to endure on the way to London, but boy oh boy, i couldn't be more wrong!Throughout the amazing 2 hour set i stood in total awe, that was when i wasn't bursting into tears because of the sheer beauty of their set. They were on top form and well worth waiting 15 years to see what has been and always will be my all time favourite band.

Support bands were great although a bit disappointed that we didn't get tickets for Friday with Florence and the Machine and Vampire Weekend being on the bill. Can't complain though weather was fantastic nice food, plenty of choice if not a little pricey. The most organised bar in the world, I thought I would be there for ages looking at the length of the queue when I joined it but it was organised with military efficiency and I was back basking in the sunshine in no time.
The main reason we were there though was of course for Blur who were absolutely brilliant and I'm so glad we got the chance to see them. Loads of familiar hits for us to sing and dance like idiots to plus some new material which was good to hear. They did 2 encores; I think we were among the first to recognise Song 2 as they really slowed it down to begin with, then gradually ramped it up whipping the crowd into a frenzy.
The only disappointment was they didn't play Charmless Man but we sang that most of the way back to the hotel to make up for it (don't think we were quite as good as Blur though . . .)
Excellent gig - Woo Hoo!!!!

Blur were great and it was obvious that they enjoyed the gig as much as the audience. They played all the stuff we wanted to hear and although I'd guessed the secret they tried to keep, it was good to see Phil Daniels bounce on stage to do his bit on 'Parklife'. Thought the support acts were very poor but Blur's performance totally overshadowed everything else.

In more ways than one Blur at Hyde Park was a scorcher. It was the hottest day of the year and the hottest band return of the year.
Before the bands started me and my friend enjoyed a drink in the outdoor bar which had benches and tables thoughtfully placed under cool, shady trees. They also took your order from your table so there was no queuing for drinks.
There was a cool little gismo in the middle of the event area that you could stand under and from which descended a cold mist. Not sure how it worked, some sort of Harry Potter magic I suspect, but very much appreciated.
It was great too that there were taps in the toilet areas, usually a bonus in itself at such events, that you could also fill up bottles with for drinking water. So you didn't have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on bottled water.
We got a pretty good place to set ourselves up when the bands got started. Not too close to the front where you get squished once the main band comes on as everyone heaves forward. But close enough to get a good view as long as noone too tall stood in front of our short arses!
The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble were up first. A bit of Jamaican style brass band action with a bit of hip hop on the side was a nice jovial start to the afternoon to get you bouncing. Friendly fires were next and definitely my favourite and not just coz it was the only one that had a song I recognized, you know the one about a broken heart. Nice bit of 80s synthing. Crystal Castles weren't really my cup of tea just a dance band with a strange woman parading up and down the stage. But I could imagine it would be good in a dance club. Foals were a favourite amongst most people. I don't know much about them and thought they were alright. But a nice Irish guy assured me they are amazing once you get into them. So I may look into them more if nothing more than to please a nice Irish guy.
When Blur came on everything stepped up ten notches, starting with early days classic She Is So High. I was so excited to see this band I'd loved for years having previously resigned myself to never seeing after their inamicable split. The nice Irish guy was just as excited although he'd already seen them 8 times before! The band looked just as excited to be there. Jumping around, Damon crowd surfing, Graham rolling on the floor. Alex having lost loads of weight looking as foppish as ever, with the old floppy hair style and fag in mouth. Every song was a winner. I particularly liked singing along to Tracy Jacks with the oowoo oowoo bits. One of my personal favourites For Tomorrow was in there. Graham sang a cracking Coffee and TV even though he dedicated it to some other woman when I've loved him for years! Phil Daniels did a guest spot for Parklife which was a bonus. Song 2 was the highlight. Everyone was jumping and banging into each other shouting woo hoo. Me and my friend got soaked by someone spraying lager, but then matted hair is all a part of the outdoor music experience. When the band did their inevitable fake ending part, as is compulsory for all live concerts, everyone sang the 'Oh My Baby, Oh Why Oh My' part of Tender which was a nice moment. They ended with the beautiful 'The Universal' and everyone felt thouroughly well treated. Though it was hard to imagine that 2 hours had passed so quickly.
Leaving the venue the police were on the gates to prevent everone spilling out onto the streets at once. Everyone started singing 'Oh My Baby' again, and so the night ended with a bit of blur sing along bonding.

I really wasn't sure what to expect from this gig, never having been to one at Hyde Park before, so here goes
Pros - all the bands were excellent, wasn't sure how Vampire Weekend would translate to the live stage but they were amazing, there was plenty of space in the venue so if you wanted to chill you could get out of the crowds. Easy to get served with food and drink
Cons - toilets - don't get me wrong, been to lots of gigs and festivals and it's never great, but when blokes are queing for 40 minutes plus to use urinals you know they've got it wrong.
All in all this was a fantastic gig, only spoilt by a bunch of 50 or 60 idiots who started throwing bottles and food cartons during the Vampire Weekend set and continued till the bitter end, after storming through those of us who'd bothered to get there in plenty of time in order to get a good spot. What made it worse was that no-one seemed to do anything about it. eventually many people decided to leave them to it after seeing several people, young and older, hit by part full plastic bottles of beer.

The sun was shining, the beer was flowing and Hyde Park filled with thousands of people enjoying the moment.
The support acts helped improve the ambience and get the mood going.
Blur came on and it was all uphill.
Each song an anthem in its own right and brought back a flood of great memories.
The set was simple and could have gone on forever ... and still not been long enough.

I was wondering what to expect from this gig, damon is undoubtedly a musical genious but it had been so long since blur had performed together would they still hold the magic they used to? I was not dissapointed they were out of this world, they performed all the old favourites and a guest apperance from phil daniels for parklife really topped off my evening. The crowd went mad for blur and they diserved every cheer they recieved. The gig was like a mini festival in the park with numerous acts performing through out the afternoon to keep the crowd entertained.
All i can say is i hope that wasnt the last we've seen of Blur
