My children and I went to the GOH to see the performance 'Horrible Histories - Frightful First World War'. It was brilliant. Memorable and inspiring.
We were therefore so excited about going to see the 'Woeful Second World War'. I couldn't wait. And to be fair to the children (Aged 9 and 5) they were equally excited about the experience too. We were buzzing.
I am sad to say that I found the format of the show quite dull. It was nothing like the frst world war. The acting was good. But it lacked umph, drama and sparkle. It wasn't that horrible!! i also found it difficult to sing along to the song. I kept forgetting the words!
My son found it confusing and disappointing. He thought he would see hitler, a tank, a prisoner of war camp, bombs, and poo. We wanted everthing about the second world war bundled up in a performance like we had seen two nights ago. My daughter found it dull, which is sad because she loves the second world war. And it could have been really horrible - why wasn't it. The second world war certainly was horrible, really horrible. I want my children to know that and I wanted them to see that. I want them to appreciate all that was done during those times and that we would not have the quality of life we have now if it wasn't for the sacrifies made then.
I wouldn't want to put you off going to the show. I don't feel like I waisted my money, as the first showing of 'Horrible Histories - Frightful First World War' was well worth twice as much as I paid for it.
My 3D glasses were not up to the job. They were covered in smear marks that I could not polish out. To find a replacement I had to leave the show and go into the entrance foyer and find someone to help. The assistant gave me a replacement pair but put my origional pair back into the box. So some poor unsuspecting paying customer will have his/her 3D experience ruined too.
If you asked me if would I go to another Horrible Histories performance - well I certainly would. In the hope it would be as good as the first performance we saw.
