The Open Championship was an amazing experience. I was first exposed to the game of golf when I was two years old and have been playing the game for 20 years now. To be able to attend the oldest championship of the game I love was a dream come true, and to see Tom Watson come so close to winning a 6th Claret Jug and becoming the oldest champion in a major, made this an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Turnberry is along way from anywhere but the journey was well worth it. Four of us set off from Manchester to watch the Open Gold Championship on Saturday 18th July 2009.
The setting on the Ayrshire coast is fabulous; the weather was sunny all day and we were able to see the world's best golfers at close quarters. On top of this veteran golfer Tom Watson rose to the occasion with leading the field until the very end.
The weather was perfect and we enjoyed a fish and chip lunch swilled down with a pint of lager. What a fabulous weekend.

What an amazing day- the course was beautiful and the organisation and layout of the whole site was brilliant. Plenty of space to move around and see as much golf as possible.
My only criticism was getting home! It took 1 1/2 hours to get out of the car park and travel 20 miles down the road. We eventaully got back to Cumbria at Midnight!!

Never been to a professional golf open before and had a great day, I'm not the golfer, that would be my husband, however I really enjoyed the day. The only thing I didn't agree with was we were not allowed to go back to the car and with it being really hot and windy I burned my face quite badly. I had put sun cream on earlier but left it in the car. There was a pharmacy but if you sat at the same hole you would never have found it. Also I think the catering was a let down. Only burgers, sausages and chips etc. The prices were reasonable considering they had the monopoly but even if they had chicken/veg burgers and jacket potatoes it would have appealed to more people. I would hate to think I was vegetarian as chips would have been the only option (provided they were cooked in vegetable oil). On a plus side the ladies toilets were kept extremely clean and well stocked.

I spent the whole day at the Open Golf Championship on Sunday 19 July 2009 at Turnberry. Most of the day I spent in the 18th hole stand watching most of the players come thru the 18th hole. Having done this for several hours I was disappointed when Tom Watson missed his long putt to have a draw. Even more disappointed that they had to go back to the 5th and 6th hole to start the play-offs where no spectators were. I think that they should only play the 18th over and over again to get a winner as most spectators who managed to secure a place in the 18th stand were there for a long time waiting for the eventual winner. On another note - this year for the first time no mobile phones were allowed but I saw several people who actually got them past security!!! When walking round the course it is better to have contact with the people you are with so you can easily meet up, or if you lose somebody it was very hard to find them again this year. If there is a mobile ban then this should apply to all even the shop people.

This year’s Open was worth every penny. I bought the tickets as a birthday present for my partner but ended up enjoying myself as much as he did. Good points include: plenty of stands and seating across the course, an electric atmosphere, a well stocked shop with women’s and men’s clothing, Good quality food & an absolutely stunning location. Also it is an event that all age groups can enjoy. The main bad point was the expense of the food, although it was nice – better than your usually burger stand, it still didn’t represent value for money. When we go next year I will definitely be taking a packed lunch! If you have the opportunity to go even if you aren’t a massive golf fan you will still enjoy it, I’d recommend this event to everyone!!!

once we'd found the ticketmaster box office we started to enjoy the day, we hadn't been instructed where to park, collect tickets etc. we had to walk for half an hour to find the office, if the golf hadn't been as good as it was i think it could have ruined the day for us.

I bought 2 tickets as a gift for other people but 1 couldn't manage to go. I went instead and didn't really know if I would enjoy it or not. Well it was excellent. Weather and atmosphere were brilliant. Only flaw was that it took 2 hours to drive 6.7miles after leaving.

Thoroughly enjoyed the golf and the organisation. I had booked tickets online but never went to pick them up as it was not clear where to go, having gone through the security tent. I did ask the security staff in the security tent but got little more than grunted at. Found all volunteers at the event and other staff extremely helpful but the security staff left alot to be desired and were hard to understand. May I add I have nothing against security workers as I am in similar employment, however as these are the first people you come into contact with on the day, it was disappointing this was your first impression of the event.
Again though I did enjoy the event and would recomend to friends.

Watching the experts perform their magic was thrilling even if you don't play. The atmosphere electric and the scenery stunning. We could view everything from warm ups to the final moments. The build up to who would win developed through the day and kept the audience enthralled, willing their favourites on. I just wish I could have taken my camera or mobile but these items were prohibited. An exceptional day that I will remember a long time. It is well worth the money, I highly recommend it!

Got there early (a must) and got a good walk around the facilities - I was majorly impressed by the job that everyone did to make the day go off without a hitch. That includes Scotrail, Stagecoach, Turnberry staff, Police and facilities people. What an event!
My advice to you all would be - if you get a chance to go to the final day, do it! And make sure you get to the 18th no later than 2pm!
If only Watson had won, we would have been watching an historic event!

I bought a ticket to The Open for my Dad's 50th birthday. He was over the moon when presented with this gift. My Dad is a big fan of the sport so I thought this would be the ideal gift and I wasn't disappointed!
He came back from the event really chuffed and was really glad he was part of the event. He definitely said he would go back next year so that's next years present sorted!
