I was able to achieve one of my life’s tick list items this year by seeing the Killers not only once but twice. The first time at the O2 and the 2nd time at the RAH. On both occasions I had (what transpired to be) very good seats.
Comparing the two events I would say that the RAH show was more visceral and their level of crowd interaction was better. At the O2 they just came on stage, BF said ‘Hi, we're The Killers,’ they started playing and didn’t stop 'til they'd finished. Which was better? I thought the sound quality was better at the O2 (well, it was in my seat anyway) there were times at the RAH when their musical genius was lost in the general hubbub and slightly fuzzy sound reproduction. Although, once again I would have to marvel at the quality of BF's voice. Where does that come from?
Which event was better from a grab you by the shoulders and shake you around a bit, point of view. Well, the O2 was a clinical demonstration of their skill, and I loved it for that. The RAH however, was a punch the air type of gig. If the water in your bottle is vibrating along to the music what are you going to do? Get up and dance! Go back 30 odd years, remember the sheer joy of Ziggy Stardust and capture those memories all over again.
Both were great nights, but for different reasons. I thoroughly enjoyed myself; and hopefully I lost a couple of pounds in the process.
