First time at this venue and first time seeing wonderful wanda Jackson. She was brilliant to say the least. All the Rockin hits everyone wanted to hear and some great stories , especially about her and ELVIS !!! WoWser !! It was agreat show and would recommend to anyone who loves the Rockin scene. She is a legend and we have to make the most of the stars who were there when it all started !!!
My only complaint was the support act was awful . Maybe if you like ROCK music that rattlles the dust out of your brain then this band werent for you. Couldnt understand a word the female lead singer said, dont even know what they were called. Maybe when booking a support for Wanda they should at least play Rockabilly ????? Staff were extremeley friendly and the Rockin disco was great too. Red headed beauty on playing tunes...cant be all bad......

The Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson proved that she still reigns with her recent gig at the Jazz Cafe. Now in her 70s, she still has the pipes she had when she was a teenager in the mid-50s. The characteristic growl is still there and she further ornaments her fierce and fiery singing with snarls, stutters and squeals as she runs through her classic songbook. Let's Have a Party, Fujiyama Mama, Funnel of Love, Mean Mean Man, they're all there as well as her versions of songs made famous by her old touring partners Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

The support band set the pace with a great rocknroll warm up especially Mark Kermode on double bass. Wanda sounded amazingly like she did all those years ago. Her anecdotes about Elvis were entertaining and apart from one gospel number which the audience respected she gave us most of her rockabilly hits. She apologised for having to sit down halfway through but thems is doctors orders. She soon got up again to banter with the crowd and continue to rock. All ages were present and all enjoyed the legend that is WJ. Many of us even had a chance to chat briefly with her afterwards.
One of the best gigs I have attended recently. A great venue where you can be up close and personal with the artist. It always amazes me how singers retain their vocal cords after so many years, even after not so clean living!
