there's a thing about musicals......and I love musicals, is when after a song, we all applaud, rather than allow the whole thing to flow and for us to enjoy each moment .
In rehearsals there's no clapping after a crescendo has been hit so why in the theatre ?
Blood Brothers was written beyond perfection by St. Willy Russell, so you lose the pause, the interlude for applause and you get a full flowing piece that you can only lose yourself in. The scenes blend before your eyes, the cast move us between each area, everything flows, no jarring, no pause, no applause. And that is not a bad thing.
This is choreography at its finest and poetically perfect. A cast that you believe are 7 (nearly 8) even though they are adults and you know they are, well if Bugsy Malone can cast children as adults, this can go the other way without a sense of disbelief.
This was Melanie C's last day as Mrs Johnstone, and she was excellent. But then so were the rest of the cast....a wonderful production, go see, enjoy, and whatever you do, (don't) tell me it's not true.
