Tremendous cast - excellent acting, particularly James Earl Jones as Big Daddy and Adrian Lester as Brick. Great to see Derek Griffiths in there and Richard Blackwood.

Possibly the best play I have seen in my entire life. Adrian Lester's performance unforgettable. Big Daddy almost as good. Challenging issues but times when I roared with laughter.

To be brief, the cast was excellent! The performances were top-notch, the venue was perfect and the sets were amazing! I am truly blessed to have been able to see this production before it closes in London. I was in the UK on business and decided that I would attend the performance months in advance. This was the best decision I could have made as my seat in the Dress Circle was in a prime location in relation to the stage. My hat goes off to Mr. Adrian Lester, whose performance as "Brick" was a tour-de-force of grit and emotion that was breathtaking to behold. Mrs. Rashad was regal, on and off the stage, and was a point perfect "Big Mama." Ms. Lathan was the only question mark before the performance (I had read several reviews indicating that she a bit out of her depth with her cast members); HOWEVER, she put those words to shame as her performance as "Maggie" was fierce and moving. Mr. Jones, I feel like I should call him "Sir", was - - words can not describe his performance. As an actor, he conducted a vital training session upon the stage that night. He took us through every emotion - every word was laced with subtext and power. It was a performace that should be captured on film for the entire world to see. The night was extra special as I was able to meet all 4 principal actors outside the theatre after the performance, where Mr. Jones and Mrs. Rashad spoke with me about acting and my budding career - words of which I will be forever grateful. Again, this is a cast and production not to be missed. We hope and pray that there will be some form of this production on DVD in the near future.

A superb show and a fabulous cast, who each more than held their own!
Be transported back to the deep south with Tennessee Williams' emotionally charged play made all the more interesting by choosing to set the story around a rich black family.
Definitely a 'go see'!

Well my friend and I got to the Novello Theatre 30 mins late (driving in central, near Covent Garden at 7.00pm on a Friday night, not recommended) and had to sit on the Balcony until the 1st interval. However, who really impressed me, even from those nosebleed seats was Saana Nathan as Maggie. Her presence on stage was truly charismatic and I warmed to her. Not so impressive was Adrian Lester's Brick who hopped around clumsily and unbelieveably as an injured sports reader. Okay sure you're drunk but I'm if you're in that much pain surely the way you move is affected. Also, his Southern accent was a bit hit or miss and you wanted to shout 'you're in a Southern play mate, not Hustle'. I didn't really engage with his character. Earl Jones was crude and Big Mommy rightly played for her generation were pleasures to watch on a live stage, hoping they as old timers wouldn't forget their words.
The play was enjoyable and I would recommend it. I often think a play's at its best during the first and last shows so I was worried the actors would become complacent, however, it felt fresh and the energy was there so go and see it.

A must see for everyone !!! Theme - communication within the family / or lack of. My friends and I could totally relate to it. All could think of someone in our families who was a " Big Daddy " or a " Gooper " or one of the remaining characters. Brilliant cast, who delivered great lines and also worked exceptionally well as a "Family".
Recommended to all my friends to see it before run ends. Always loved James Earl Jones, but Adrian Lester is definitely up there with him !!!

Favourite moment: Brick's confrontation with Big Daddy in Act 2 @

Wonderful play. No fancy gimmicks, but good old straightforward acting from virtually every member of the cast. Strong performances, brilliant character development and thorughly enjoyable overall. Act 2 was particularly good, the scenes between Big Daddy and Brick, the gradual unfolding of brick's denial; ...all incredibly powerful. Maggie (Sanaa Lathan) too, gave a stellar performance.
I found though the audience laughing at moments that I personally found quite painful - such as Brick's rejection of Maggie in the bedroom; I'm not entirely sure why...
But, all in all, a great evening of theatre, and very highly recommended.

The stage set and the lighting are terrific and ALL the ladies, Peter de Jersey and the children gave mesmerising and wonderful performances. Unfortunately, on the night, Adrian Lester and James Earl Jones were not at the top of their game. Each missed cues and forgot lines; however JEJ is such a professional that he sailed through them. He is such a wonderful performer, I could forgive him anything.
I was saddened that Adrian Lester's performance was not as I had hoped, it felt that his acting was sporadic and affected at times, there was no flow to the character. However, I know he can perform wonderfully, so am happy to assume that this was a one off occurence and have already recommended the play to others.

I found that the story with very interesting with lots to keep you entertained. There was also a few elements of the story which are left to your imagination leaving you with lots to talk about long after the play has finished.
The time flew by and everyone in the play formed a amazingly great evening - I loved it!

The main characters were acted simply wonderfully by the lead actors. They had me drawn in within the first few minutes.
The lengthy monologues delivered by Sanaa Lathan and James Earl Jones are particularly worth mentioning. It amazes me how anyone can remember so much script.
Set was very stylish and certainly gave the sense of a grand bedroom in an opulent plantation mansion in the hot and humid Deep South.
As is the norm for the older theatres in London there are too many (too small) seats squashed into the space for maximum revenue, making it a little uncomfortable. One of the only times I am glad that I am not particularly tall.

I saw the play last night (Feb 23) it was amazing. I was sitting in the Dressing Circle row D seat 18 which was almost centre. I was a little concerned about the leg room as I am 5'8 but I had no issues. The theatre was packed which def added to the environment. Beautiful venue, the acoustics were perfect from my seats and the view as well. You can see the entire stage from the dressing circle. Would definitely recommend this play to anyone. it was nice to see an all black cast in such a remarkable play - Sanaa Lathan was amazing. she stole the show (obviously James Earl Jones held his own in his own right). Fabulous performance.

It took a bit of time to warm up in the first 30 minutes however once you paid attention and immersed yourself in the dialogue the full story begins to unravel. Adrain Lester and Sanna Latham had brilliant chemistry teh timing was excellent....
Seeing Phlicia Rashad palying a much older woman was amazing. The cast obvioulsly have worked very closely together and are very convenicing.

Superb show! Very powerful performances by the entire cast. Found myself hanging on every word throughout and feeling very moved by the end.
Only criticism was the sound effects during Bricks' reliving of the football games with Skipper - unnecessary and distracting.

Blandly staged and directed, the only redeeming features were the performance of James Earl Jones and watching Adrian Lester trying to avoid really falling down the stairs on his crutch. Apparently the fact that it was performed by an all black cast was supposed to be noteworthy. Well perhaps it would have been 40 years ago, but today it is a complete irrelevance and the director should have tried harder if you ask me. I've seen much better in the west end and given the extortionate prices of tickets these days, I'd suggest you go and see something else. It's not bad per se, but nor is it worth spending a lot of money on.
