Being a life-long Queen fan ( and unfortunately too young to have seen them live w/ my darling Freddie), I couldn't pass up this opportunity to see them now, and it was a truly memorable experience. Where to begin?- Brian May rocks! I could listen to that man play the guitar forever. Such a class act. Roger still has it, what a drummer and what a great rock voice. Spike Edney on the piano, Neil Fairclough on the bass and Rufus Taylor on the percussions were all rockin'!
The atmosphere in the audience was electric. I've been to hundreds of concerts, and never before have I experienced such an energetic, enthusiastic audience. From start to finish, the whole Apollo was on their feet, everyone singing, clapping and cheering them on. So much love in that venue.
And I don't have enough words to describe the phenomenal Adam Lambert. I always thought no one could come as even remotely close to Freddie or give Queen songs justice. Well I am glad to be proved wrong. Freddie would be proud of that boy. And this is the best part about Adam Lambert- Although he didn't copy Freddie in any way- after all, why would he? Freddie was one of a kind and I'll miss him forever- Adam put his own touch on the songs, and is clearly his own man and a very talented artist in his own right.
Even though their voices aren't that much similar ( although in many ways they are), somehow it all sounded/ felt right. I guess it's because to me, it felt like their spirit was the same- free, loving and full of energy. Lambert has a super powerful voice, huge range. Great stage presence, tons of charisma and great chemistry w/ the band. Brian May was looking at him like a proud Dad. It was a beautiful thing to see, the whole band enjoying themselves so much, and the obvious respect and affection between them all. As one reviewer here said, it somehow felt like they've been playing together for decades- it's true. OK, so this was Queen+..., but it felt like "Queen". The energy and the spirit of Queen- theatrical, flamboyant, tongue-in-cheek rock'n'roll at its finest-was there. That doesn't mean to say that I still wouldn't give everything I could to see them with Freddie, but alas...The Show Must Go On, and I don't think there could be a better pairing than this one-here's hoping for more dates in the future. This was the best concert I've ever been to, and would recommend it to everyone. Two and a half hours of pure adrenaline rush and joy, my only wish was that it could last even longer.
