Yell Fire!

Favourite moment: When he told us that he had just heard that for the first time in his 21 year career, he had had a record get into the american billboard Top 40 :-) @

Opening act(s): Charine Anderson - very good with the crowds, great voice and gorgeous! Prefer seeing her as a singer with Spearhead though ;-) @

Michael Franti proved, yet again just why it's worth paying good money to go see him live.

From the moment he bounced onto stage to "Everybody on a move", the audience was jumping, singing, waving their arms and spreading the love with his music. Spearhead were as tight as a drum playing their mixture of soul, reggae and rock with applomb. As is his wont, Michael drifted into cover versions, dropping into Tainted Love in the middle of "All I want is you", leading the crowd in a chorus of "Our House" over another song and dropping into "In the Summertime" in time honoured style :-) He introduced two new songs as part of the set and had the audience singing them assuredly along with him.
The encores concluded with the magnificent "Yell Fire" with each of the band taking the opportunity for their short solo, before two unsuspecting fans were dragged fromt he audience and given guitars only to launch into the break from AC/DC's Back in Black, althought hey may have been miming with the guitarist playing it off stage ;-)

He was on stage for the best part of 2 hours and just exuded love from the moment he set foot on the stage to the moment he left, some 5 minutes later than the band, after he had shaken hands and posed for photos with his audience. Michael Franti wants you there to be part of his performance, not just to watch it - and each and every one of us were Rebel Rockers by the time we left, if we weren't already when we got there.

His performance was all the mroe remarkable given that a few short weeks after, he was rushed to an emergency room with a ruptured appendix that he had been carrying for months.....! The show must go on and next time Michael Franti is in town I'll be there!

Franti & Spearhead were fantastic - such great music, such high energy - a shame that the sound quality at The Arches in Glasgow isn't better as was very hard to hear the vocals on the louder, rockier tracks and the lyrics are so important with these guys. Performance were excellent though, they gave us so much - brilliant.

Michael Franti and Spearhead always put on a great show. They play a wide variety of reggae, funk, hip-hop, and rock n' roll. Their most recent show at Hammersmith featured a lot more reggae than their typical show and it was fantastic. They are a guaranteed good time.

Came through from St.Andrews with some friends, been trying to catch this crew for couple years and so glad to have seen them at last. Had great time dancing to tunes i'd listened to so much, sound was spot on guys. Hands up,hands up! Great support from Cherine Anderson,girls got fine voice there,came back to join band for much of their set. Even had AC/DC tune as nod to their visit to city that evening assisted by couple from audience on guitars. And respect due for Michael Jackson tune, loss to all music lovers. Left gig soaked with sweat,happy and smiling into a warm evening. Thanks Michael and crew

Overall this was a fantastic concert. I had seen Michael Franti and Spearhead twice before in Australia, they were awesome both times, and for this concert they did not disappoint. I have never seen anyone as energetic and into his music as Michael Franti. He played mostly his best older songs but also a few new ones. He knew how to work the crowd and get them pumped up. A highlight of the night was when he gave a tribute to Michael Jackson and played "I'll Be There'. I rave about Michael Franti and Spearhead to anyone who will listen and can't wait to see them again.

Spearhead were unterrly mesmerizing from carl young's bass grooves syncing into some smooth drum beats and michael franti's urban poetry perfectly complemented by cherine anderson soulful reggae voice , the whole place was rocking to some soulful reggae beats , love was in da house . if you havent had the pleasure yet catch franti in action next time round.
