I have loved Mr Christmas Mr Lawrence since my childhood without knowing who had composed it. By chance I discovered that it was Ryuichi Sakamoto and I kept looking various performances of this piece on YouTube, the one with the trio being my favourite. I could not believe my luck when the London at Royal Festival Hall with the Trio has been announced. It was just magical. All of it.

This is the second time I've seen him play and he is an incredible musician and composer. Watching him perform only shows how connected he is with his music and the piano he plays. The performance is atmospheric and meditative. You'll come away feeling restored and inspired.
This was the first time I've seen him play with other musicians - namely as a trio - with a cellist and a violinist. Makes for am incredible acoustic performance of some of his previously synthesised work.

Have heard Ryuichi Sakamoto play before at the South Bank, but this was infinitely better - from the venue to the performance. Do not miss this artist - his performance had us completely spellbound

Cadogan Hall is a timeless venue that provides the perfect backdrop for hosting the soundscapes painted by Ryuichi Sakamoto. Ryuichi is in a class of his own in that he does more than inform the listener - he educates them. In his hands, the piano becomes a medium of expression for people to interpret as they see fit. I found myself liking certain things that he did, but not coming to terms with others. The important thing is that he presents a different perspective on what the piano is capable of. Although his constant challenging of your perceptions never go un-noticed, he will expand your musical horizons in ways that you'd never thought possible. Check him out next time he's in town - you won't regret it.

At times technically challenging, it was a truly beautiful and dignified performance. I was surprised to find myself moved to tears.
When all around were rushing to find the exits, my friend and I felt we needed to sit for a quiet moment and absorb all that had just passed. To join the crowd seemed inappropriate and crass.

Ryuichi Sakamoto's gig was awesome, probably the best one in this year. It was almost like being in love - I smiled, I cried, I was happy, sad, satisfied, desired, desirable, insightful, patient & full of all the different emotions. After all these years, some things are never faded out.

Not quite what I expected but a very relaxing and enjoyable evening that came to life in the second half, Sakamoto is very clearly a skilled musician and his rendition of Forbidden colours was worth the money alone

5 stars for Ryuici Sakamoto but 4 stars for the theater management and lack of information on the exact time the performance starts. On the ticket, it was printed 7pm but the actual performance did not start until 8pm. Website did not say anything more than performance slot is 7pm. Having to travel from London to Brighton, this discrepancy is NOT ACCEPTABLE!! Also, there is a lack of information on the length of the performance too.
Eventhough we sat on row F, the background music overwhelmed the piano sound which makes Ryuichi's performance rather subdue. Perhaps it is the nature of the Ryuichi's style of music which is quite mellow.
Otherwise, Ryuichi's performance is simply amazing!

Beautiful relaxed evening. The set started with some of RS's ambient stuff followed by tracks from 'Playing the Piano'.
The set was supported by a video backdrop. Personally I found the video distracting, my partner quite enjoyed it.
