Very poor. Only people who seemed to find it scary were the teenage school girls! Poor story line. Hats off to the actors (all two of them) who managed to keep us interested in parts. Overall a waste of money and time.

Despite the bad seats we had and the theatre itself, the production was very good.
The production was by 2 actors playing various roles and were outstanding at what they did with limited props.
I have seen the film but learnt so much more about the storyline from the theatre production,
Quite jumpy at times.
Recommended.

I was not sure what to expect having seen the plaudits regarding the film and it's leading man Daniel Radcliffe. The stage performance was a fine example of story telling using stage props, with a supporting acctress providing the cameo role of the Women in Black. The audience were startled as the story grew towards it's conclusion which was a welcome addition to the fairly heavy dialogue between two actors who were stretching our imaginatiions to the full. The story was delivered convincingly and concluded to much applause, and whilst this style of theatre is not my normal choice of prodution I am glad to have seen it and applaud it's intelligence.

Went to see the Woman in Black with a couple of friends. I'd heard that it was scary, but thought it was all hype. In spite of the small cast (just two actors) and minimal set and props, it actually was very creepy. Fine performances, along with clever use of sound, lighting and fog, and a few scary moments that really made the audience jump! Recommended.

The small theatre is the perfect setting for the women in black. My boyfriend and I watched the show and both loved it. The small cast keeps the plot interesting and focused, creating tension perfectly at crucial times. At points I found myself holding my breath in anticipation. Scenery and props cleverly used. I would definitely recommend others watching the play.

I first saw this production nearly 20 years ago and was amazed that two actors and a prop basket could tell such an involved story and hold an audience in their spell for 2 hours. This time I took my teenage children and they too were gripped as the tension builds toward the final resolution. They now cannot wait to visit the theatre again and that itself speaks volumes for the excellence of this production. Long may it continue.

I went fully anticipating a wonderful theatrical experience as every time I mentioned it to someone they said Oh great play and scarey too.....The sad reality was two actors and a wicker chest pretending it was a cart by bouncing up and down ...the set was minimal the technical effects non existent and the sound effects were laughable...the sight of the Black Woman an actress walking on and off did not make me for one minute suspend my disbelief...the rocking chair pulled by string to rock spookily and the torch wrenched from the main actor's hand and shone upwards to light the walk ons face was so amateurish. The good thing was at the end we had a really good laugh at what we had just witnessed but at £49 a seat it was an expensive laugh...

Everything about this performance was amazing. The actors kept everyone on the edge of their seats throughout. The lighting and sound effects where fantastic. As soon as it had finished I wanted to see it again.

The Actors were terrific and the script brilliantly written. Seen it several times before and can never get tired of it. Only down point is the fact that too many kids watch the show which spoils it for the more serious viewers. The pair of idiots infront of me had no interest in watching the show and instead kept looking around which was quite distracting. So my advice is to pay for the more expensive seats and sit closer to the stage to avoid distraction. Back to the production, very simple, few props and a lot of imagination needed but there were plenty of jumpy moments and you're always on the edge. Thoroughly recommended!

The Fortune is a small and intimate theatre which is, in many ways, ideal for this type of "economic" production. The interior of the theatre has lost any grandeur it might once have had and is really frankly somewhat shabby inside, but the performances of the cast were nothing of the sort.
Acting with a smooth and swift delivery throughout, high in energy, combined with clever stage lighting and imaginative use of the stage, to represent the different plot settings, results in a highly polished and entertaining play leaving you feeling a degree of warmth and empathy towards the characters as they draw you into their story.
The supposedly "scary moments" of the play were, for me, somewhat comical at times whereas other members of the audience were gasping in terror! I think the reaction of the audience added to the overall atmosphere of the play and made it all the more entertaining.
