Thoroughly enjoyed this performance. The singers and actors were fantastic as was the most unexpected tap-dancing. A night to remember.

I am a traditionalist, I do not like and am very suspicious of transmogrations. But when new approaches to opera work, I am delighted. Well I expected as much of a production that has been going strong since 1986. Yours truly last enjoyed G & S in the early 50's in those old D'Oyly Carte days and have fond memories of those traditional performances. Jonathan Miller has indeed brought a freshness to the goings-on, especially with the spectacular dance routines. From the first rate cast I single out the brilliance of Richard Stuart as Ko-Ko and Donald Maxwell as Pooh-Ba. The enjoyment they were having on the stage just bubbled over to us in the audience. Now I am being greedy and begging Jonathan Miller to pop out of his aging years for a Pinafore and a Trial by Jury.

Saw the Mikado on Friday 25th Jan, Cast was brilliant, enjoyed the way it was made more topical, the Lord High Executioners song was brilliant.
Scene was great,
Onlt critcism was the audience, I have never seen such rudeness, ill manners and arrogance in one place, Even one of the ushers commneted it was a particularly bad audience!!!!!!

Gilbert and Sullivan are great. The black and white Thirties theme was new to us and worked well. The cast hammed it up when necessary to create a thoroughly enjoyable performance.

I'm not a huge G&S fan, but I am familiar with the Mikado - it seems to have a high concentration of their best-known songs, and the plot is both totally ludicrous and perfectly constructed. As it happens Sky Arts recently showed a film of Jonathan Miller's original production for the ENO with Eric Idle and Lesley Garrett, which tipped the balance for me to see it live. The version I saw was very similar but I think having a comedian in the title role added something which this performance couldn't quite live up to. Still great fun though and well worth seeing.

the Mikado is a beautiful, playful and funny opera and the actual production gives a big credit to the original libretto. The music is varied and interesting, the plot is hilarious and the setting in the 30s suits the story very well. The actors/singers know their stuff and some performances were memorable - notably that of KO-KO.

I loved the almost monochrome sets and the singing performances were great, particularly nanky-poo
The choreography was also really well done, went very well with the music and an appropriate level of humour was applied (very G+S)
the only criticism I have are that I don't think the "contemporary" political humour was great, it was really lowest common denominator stuff - I didn't feel it really added very much

i enjoyed Mikado very much, especially Alfie Boe, but would have preferred show to be in the original format (japanese costumes) would have been more colourful

Wonderful production-well worth the travel to see it. However, failed to hear al the items on the "little list" and hadn't ,by then,realised that the words were scrolling above the stage. Any chance of letting me know what they were?

A stunning production beautifully performed and presented. a tribute to the grandmaster Jonathan Miller. Slight drawback when will the Coliseum discover air conditioning - it felt like a hothouse!
