This was supposed to be a birthday treat for my wife.As great Dana Krall fans we found the event hugely disappointing. Diana Krall seemed to want to reinvent herself with a range of music that hardly touched on the usual smooth jazz that we have come to associate with her.
At times she was drowned by the band . We came to listen to her and not the band.The graphics did little to enhance the show and were largely repetitive and boring and largely unrelated to the music.The venue did not suit the content of the music.
We came away feeling that we had spent a lot of money for something that could have been so much better.

sadly disappointing. have been fan of diana krall for ages and have heard her play really well before with a different band. the thumping drums on her new album are a real turn off. this singer has the most amazing whisky-honey voice - maybe one day she will sing the blues!

Disappointing choice of songs. Not what was expected from our group of 4 people. Although she is a very talented lady and versatile it seemed a bit of a self indulgent choice of her own. The backdrop was irritating as it was on a rolling loop repeating itself. (although I understand the 20s/30s/40s etc., themes) At times it seemed that it was just like a private jamming session.

For over 2 hours Diana Krall kept us entertained playing almost all her new album and and even more. So good she could turn her back to us and play the honky tonk piano. Refreshing down to earth with her conversation and even with a cold a brilliant vocailst. a good show. catch her act where you can

I'm sorry to say I was hugely disappointed. I love Diana Krall and have seen her before and she was amazing. However this time she decided to ignore ALL of her "jazz standard" type numbers and the program she performed just wasn't my cup of tea. The musicianship and performance was there but I'm afraid the content wasn't. Judging by the various comments I overheard from several others on leaving I wasn't the only disappointed one.

This Royal Albert hall gig was to be the first time I'd seen Diana live so I was really excited. I was however just so horribly disappointed with the set list! I think out of the 2h15m she played, I recognised 4 or 5 songs. There was very little swing, mainly (it seemed like) repetitive 20's music with a heavy drum and distoted guitar. Not at all what I was expecting as I have listed obsessively to Live in Paris and several other of her albums and I was hoping for something of the same. At times, I was just a little bored and the last song, while it was absolutely beautifully played and sang, was a complete downer. Not the way I'd like to leave a concert, I want to feel uplifted, not like I want to take a nap.
Her voice is absolutely magnificent, that is never in doubt and her band were supberb. I loved her interaction with the crowd (rambling at times!) and I would see her again. Maybe I'll be lucky a second time...

Her new stuff is quite hard edged and I am sure she shocked some of her old time fans. The new stuff is different and shows another side to this great performer. Not sure about the guitar in some of the songs- rather too strident for my taste but overall she has a great band. The drummer really laid down terrific rhythms.

Diana Krall's performance at the Albert Hall was adventurous, sensitive and generally wonderful. The slight partially negative comments might be: the amusing continuous old movie backdrop could be distracting and maybe should not be continuous; also, one or 2 numbers seemed a little more Clapton than Krall - but probably that is part of being adventurous. One is reminded somewhat of the occasion when Dylan went electric on stage for the first time; this week nobody walked out, but certainly she was well into a few novel numbers for her repertoire. The period where she worked alone at the piano was superb and atmospheric. However, her band was excellent in every respect.
If she was performing again tonight and tickets were available, I would go straight back.

A lovely and intimate concert...Diana Krall had such an amazing tone to her voice, even though she was suffering from a cold. She talked about her songs and a bit about her life growing up. She hao some amazing musicians with her too. Really glad I went and an experience to see her at The Albert Hall

Diana seemed all dressed for a lively performance - killer heels. How does one play piano ini 3-inch siletto heels? Poorly...
Her supporting Band seemed up to scratch, injecting some energy into the evening, but she also shot a few angry glances at the team when them jammed with too much enthusiam. (That's one of the downsides of sitting close - seeing the stage politics)
It was a quiet, mellow evening - no challenges or excitement. Next time I'll open a GBP 60 bottle of wine and listen to the CD.

Saw Diana Krall 2 years ago at same event when she was brilliant, magical and in tune with her audience. She gave us her hits and well known songs then but this time, forgot we were there as she jammed with her fellow band members. I felt as if I had stumbled across a group in a small jazz Club and actually found myself observing what people around me were doing other than what was on show on stage!.
Diana obviously has young children, to which she referred to a couple of times, which is great but if you are too tired, dont expect us to pay for a sub standard effort as tickets are expensive, the venue difficult to get to, let alone park. Such a shame as think she is a wonderful, gifted woman. Must try harder.

We love our Diana Krall CDs so it was a big treat for me and my daughter to be able to take a picnic into Kenwood on a balmy summer night to hear her sing live. Unfortunately we really felt the event to be such a disappointment. It seemed as though Ms Krall was exhausted. At some point she made a rather incoherent reference (her only communication with the audience) to her twin boys aged 3, and I felt she should be staying home with them until she was less exhausted rather than trying to tour with them. Not fair on them, her, or us. The whole performance was lacklustre and no attempt was made to engage with the audience. At one point she accidentally knocked the mike off her piano and that seemed to wake her up a bit and try a bit harder for the duration of that song; a small reminder of how wonderful her voice can be. Very, very disappointing and not worth the £100 that we shelled out for the evening.

I love Diana Krall and I was really looking forward to this concert. Unfortunately, the location doesn't lend itself to an intimate jazz gig. Most of the audience appreciated talking through a set like this was a complete no-no, but there were some ignorant folk there for whom the lovely Diana and her excellent band were nothing more than background noise to their endless chatter.
I'd go and see Diana Krall again in a heart-beat, but not at Kenwood House and I'd go back to Kenwood (excellent organisation, delightfully charming back-drop) but just not for a gig that requires the audience to be a bit considerate.

Diana Krall played a very laid back gig at Kenwood in Hampstead Northwest London on Saturday night. The audience of several hundred either watched her from their over-priced deckchairs or lazed on the banks at the back in the sweltering heat of the night. The support act passed by without a murmur. The egocentric singer/songwriter of no particular originality or charisma was accompanied by a couple of backing singers who did their best with his mediocre materilal. But the crowd were there for Ms Krall and eventually she came on accompanied by guitar, double bass and drums. From the off it was obvious the sound rig was hopelessly underpowered and balanced by someone with hearing difficulties. The kick drum sounded like a wet slab of meat that resonated around the grounds, managing to drown out the double bass player's efforts. Diana's piano sounded like a toy, which was no mean feat considering it was a Steinway Grand. Her performance didn't exactly grip the crowd, being as it was more suitable for a hotel lobby than a full scale concert. The audience reacted suitably, with many leaving before the end. By this time she and her band had got into their groove a little better and although we had to sit through her between song banter about how lucky she was and how beautiful her children, life, husband etc. were, the audience that remained gave her a rousing encore.

A good concert on a Summer evening and beautiful setting, great atmosphere and great music. The only annoyances were that my tickets were bought as 'seated' in the Promenade, but on arrival we were told there is no actual seats and we had to sit on the grass, which is nice enough but then the tickets should not be sold as seated !!
I also had to then spend £10 on a blanket to sit on whilst there.
Also, it was a bit hard to appreciate the music as too many people were far busier eating
thier picnics and talking loudly, and even in some cases not even looking at the artist. This kind of spoilt the whole experience and so I won't bother again.
Shame.

Lovely venue but a long way away.
Concert which was good was far too short especially considering the distance travelled to get there and price of tickets.
It felt as if Diana Krall was only playing to get the job done. She admitted she was tired and it sounded like it.
Useless bus service after concert to go back to Golders Green. Did not see one between 22.10 and 22.40 when it finally arrived.
