There is no doubt that Van Morrison is a great artist. He is well known for being unpredictable in performance, hitting great heights and also being mundane. This was a show without interval, about 1 1/2 hours in which he performed some of his best known material. High points for me were the ballads and the old blues numbers. Of course the band were impeccable and we had Van on sax, harmonica, piano and guitar. He doesn't shine on any of these but his soul timing is brilliant. I didn't have many expectations of the show but the merchandise on sale in foyer made it appear as if this was the "Astral Weeks" tour and that we would hear Van perform Astral Weeks in its entirety. As it was there were no songs from that iconic album and there's no doubt that some in the audience felt short changed - especially as he had performed the concert we heard as the first set in London with Astral Weeks after the interval.
