Favourite moment: Daniel asking Brian to lay down a 'church groove'...which he subsequently did...and it was mighty fine too! @
Setlist: Nomad, Love Lives, The LAst Time, Surely, I Believe In You, Agave/Slow BAby, Steel, Fire, Silverado, The Messenger, I'd Rather Go Blind, Ring The Alarm, Sing, The Maker @
Opening act(s): Rocco de Luca. Wonderful set. Short but very sweet. Highlight was the addition of a roving French horn player adding a haunting melody line to the last track as he wandered amongst the crowd. @
Daniel Lanois is a true legend. His work with Brian Eno (and their shared production duties on U2 and Coldplay) are some of the most important contributions in modern music. So the chance to catch his latest quartet in the intimate surroundings of the Jazz Cafe is one not to miss! And what a night! There's an effortless to the band's playing that oozes charm out into the loving crowd. Daniel grins throughout. Trixie's smoky vocals hover in the air. Daryl quietly pulses the heartbeat. Brian provides the raw heartbeat on a small kit but with a dexterity that would put most 'big-kit' drummers to shame. And a proper, decent support act too - don't get many nights like this!
