This was a chilled, relaxing and informal concert. As Mary Chapin fans, this was an entertaining insight into two talented singer songwriters and their relationship. They were so easy together performing on each other's work and some great songs by other writers. We are now Shawn Colvin fans, excellent.

Absolutely stunning gig by 2 top singer/songwriters, there voices worked very well together, a great evening. Well worth going to see if you get the chance.

Cheap concert - two chairs, no drums, no keyboard, It wasnt Mary CC it was Shawn C who took the lead mostly with MCC however far too much tuning of guitars. Mary didnt even pay us the courtesy of' dressing' for the occasion.

Whilst acknowledging Shawn Colvin's obvious talents as singer/songwriter, we didn't travel a fair distance to listen predominently to her talking, singing and tuning her guitar while being treated to an occasional rendtion from Mary Chapin. There were a few duets with Shawn, three or four songs from the new Ashes & Roses album and one "golden oldie" but our overall impression was that the tickets should have been sold as "An Evening With Shawn Colvin", with support from Mary Chapin Carpenter; NOT the other way round. We have travelled to every performance by her in Scotland over the years and have always enjoyed them and felt that we got what we paid for. On this occasion we felt we did not get what we paid for, but something altogether different.

Mary and Shawn were on stage for over two hours without a break. Two of your all time favourites together, what more could you ask for? Having read reviews of Mary's album I was expecting something downbeat, but it was funny and charming and the chemistry between these great performers was wonderful.

For over 2 hours on stage Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin delivered an enchanting acoustic set of their own songs and their own favourites written by others (Dylan, Steve Earle, Paul Simon, Greg Brown, Tim Finn). Each took it in turn to take the lead while the other either sat attentively or harmonised. Each sang some songs from their latest albums taking the opportunity to explain the background to the song or what was happening in their lives at the time of writing. They have been friends for over thirty years and it was a privilege to hear them reminiscing and joking with one another as old friends do. They certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves and this came through in their performance. The fact that they had no backing group and simply accompanied themselves on guitar made it a more memorable experience for me. A great evening' entertainment.

Very disappointing - I have been a Mary Chapin Carpenter fan for many years but I am afraid this is the last concert of hers that I will be going to. I expected Mary Chapin Carpenter songs (as she was the name on the ticket) whereas Shawn Colvin dominated the show. Half the time Shawn Colvin spent trying to tune her guitar and the rest of the time she sang her own songs in a very boring and monotonous voice. Mary Chapin Carpenter was even more subdued than normal and did not appear to be enjoying the show. If you were looking for some upbeat songs then you were certainly disappointed. Even the encore was dominated by Shawn Colvin. In future if a performer is sharing the stage with someone else then this should be made clear when the tickets are advertised - not in an email two days before the concert as happened in this case.

We went to the Sage Centre in Gateshead for the opening concert of the tour on Monday 15th October full of excitement - and came away very disappointed. Neither Mary Chapin Carpenter nor Shawn Colvin played any of their individual hits (absolutely none). And whilst we were expecting an accoustic set - they could have woken up a bit during the measly 1 hour 40 mins (including encore). They were basically sharing what they might sing together backstage to amuse themselves - very self indulgent. They played for themselves - not the audience - how arrogant is that. Best song of the night was MCC's 'The Hard Way'

Extremely disappointing show, where we were sitting we were unable to understand
anything sung or said by Tift Merritt and it did not improve very much when Mary Chapin Carpenter came on. That said not helped by the drunken gentleman next to us talking and drinking from cans of beer taken from his rucksack
Left theatre with nearly an hour to go.

The evening was started in an energetic and engaginway with Tiff and then followed by the awesome musicianship of Mary's band along with her singing and playing.
A thoroughly brilliant evening from start t finish. The Barbican is an excellent venue.

Mary Chapin Carpenter ticks all the boxes. Her music is sensational and she has enormous charm, and actually says something interesting between songs, as well as giving full credit to her band and supporting act.

I was really disappointed to miss Mary Chapin Carpenter's last concert in Glasgow because it was under the banner of "Celtic Connections" and was not advertised in the way one of her concerts normally is. That was in 2007 and I did wonder if she would maintain her following and also no one I know is aware of her. When I went to the venue there was very few seats left and some people were standing so that answered my question about her still being popular. I have been to 5 m/c/c and this one like the previous 4 was of her usual high standard She was very warmly received when she came on and opened with 3 songs from her recent album "The Age of Miracles" . These were followed by a bit of talk with the audience and then she delved into her back catalogue interspersed with songs from the recent album which was her 12th. She did all the crowd pleasers " Passionate Kisses/ He thinks he'll keep her/ and too many more to mentioned. She was in fine voice through the entire 1hr and 40mins and was very well backed by her band who have been with her long term and contibute greatly to all her concerts. It was a night to saviour and knowing that she has a vast tour schedule I am glad she can fit Glasgow into her intinary.

The Old Fruitmarket proved a suitable venue for a fantastic night's entertainment. Singing solo and playing guitar or piano on several of her own compositions,Tift Merritt, the opening support act, showed why she is an emerging singer songwriter of considerable talent. She will learn a lot from this tour from Mary Chapin Carpenter who took us through a whole gamut of emotions with her wide range of self penned songs. Backed by her own band, most of whom had toured with her for a good number of years, she interspersed her new material with some of her greatest hits to the delight of an appreciative audience who stood to applaud all on stage after several encores. A great night not to be missed.

This is the third time I have been to see Mary Chapin Carpenter and I remain a big fan ,but I thought the gig looked a bit tired and lacked a bit of spark,which seemed to come and go but didnt remain constant.
Without doubt a lot of hard work went into this event but it fell a bit short,but Mary Chapin Carpenter will always be a world class act who I will ofcourse return to see,

The show was just under two-hours, started off with the slow-tempoed message-driven songs, adding in some new material. The new tune, “Mrs. Hemingway,” was stunning and to know the history of how the song came to be really added to it and of course the crowd favorites had the audience up and dancing! Overall a superb show and we'll be back the next time MCC is back in town.
