Kristin Hersh performed a professional set of Appalachian folk songs and a smattering of hits from her solo work, including two new ones from her forthcoming album.
While her own compositions wipe the floor with the traditionals, she proved a moody and spell-binding presence, having to cajoule the audience into interaction with her own gentle prompts.
Her manager looked thoroughly fed-up that evening, but graciously sold the Hersh merchandise with gentle persuasion as she tackled a batch of Throwing Muses oldies with a damaged thumb. Highlight of the night was a rare performance of early Muses B-side "Finished" and other tracks from "House Tornado."
Value for money, charming company, legendary performer. Brilliant evening.
