Brad's appearance in a nice small venue in London came after a massive wait for me, after having their debut album since its release way back in 1993. The band started with the opening track, Buttercup, which brought back years of memories to me. Vocalist Shaun Smith, sharing piano duties with tour musician Happy Chichester, showed what an outstanding voice he has. A voice that seemed a little upset that the venue had only provided blue sweat towels when he had requested black! The majority of the setlist comprised of numbers from Shame and 97s Interiors, with a few numbers from last years United We Stand. Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard took the opportunity to sing a new song of his own. To prove his versatile talents further he played the bongos with passionate fury during 20th Century, possibly their most well known song. Shaun also did an emotional cover of Mother Love Bone's Crown of Thorns. He claimed to have a tear in his eye after the song, which most members of the audience must have done, thinking of their fallen friend Andrew Wood, who has been 23 years gone... The band came out to join him and shortly cheered the crowd up with the more up beat Lift. Shaun hinted to the crowd that the band would be doing more stuff together, and I for one hope that next time they play the UK I don't have to wait 20 years!

After finding the pleasant small venue, Brad took to the stage. Breaking out into Buttercup, they brought back favourite moments from Shame and Interiors, their first two sublime albums. Seeing Shawn, Regan and Stone up there confused me to think that Shame was released in 1993 and twenty years later was their first UK show! Understandable given the band members other commitments, including Satchel and Pearl Jam. The inclusion of a tour guitarist freed Stone Gossard to play the bongos with passion during 20th Century, creating a further element to the most well known Brad song. Shawn did a three song medley comprising of a Satchel song, his own composition, climatising in Mother Love Bone's Crown of Thorns, a tribute to Andy Wood, who passed some 23 years previous. Shawn claimed to have a tear in his eye after the melancholy composition, as did most of the audience. L'andrew would have been proud! The band then came back out to finish with Lift, a cover of Jumpin' Jack Flash, then curiously set opener Buttercup, a wonderfully original touch, to close with the opening number. Shawn told us that they would be doing a lot more stuff together. Let's not have another twenty years wait next time!

I've waited 20 years for Brad to tour the UK and it was worth the wait. They were incredible. What a night. I only hope they don't leave it another 20 years to play here again!

I have to admit I wasn't expecting too much from this gig - a support band I'd not heard much from, and Brad - I loved their first CD from 1993, but only got into their latest very recently - and pretty much missed everything in between. I was expecting heavyish Indie Rock from New Killer Shoes, which isn't my normal cuppa, but they won me over with a polished and intense set with plenty of both indie and classic rock influences. Great start!

And Brad. OMG. Simply OMG. I was a little worried that it might be a bit 'light weight' for me - for gigs I prefer the heavier end of rock - but Brad were stunning. Shawn Smith is an incredible singer and songwriter, and every song hit the mark ably backed by the band including Pearl Jam legend Stone Gossard on guitar. We were even treated to an acoustic version of a Mother Love Bone song 'Crown of Thorns'.

I've been waiting 20 years to see Brad in the Uk. They didn't disappoint! Loved the gig from start to finsih.

Second time I have seen them, first was 10 years ago in Australia. They are just as good as I remembered. Great intimate gig. Come back soon for another tour!

Opening act(s): Support band NEW KILLER SHOES played a 30 minute set with one song from their ep which they are giving away at each gig and new songs played excellently. Look out for them visiting a venue near you in the future. They have an album coming out in April and later in the year, an acoustic album. @

The academy is a small intimate venue and was perfect as the crowd were almost on top of the banc, excellent!

Waited 20 years for BRAD to appear across the pond and it was worth the wait!

Songs played from the 1st album SHAME to their latest UNITED WE STAND plus a brand new song from Stone Gossard! Shawn Smith also did a little solo spot..

All band members looked to be having a good time and being the seasoned professionals they are showed no 1st night nerves.

They came on stage just after 9pm and played until 10.55pm.

We hope they come back soon!
