This has by far exceeded all of my expectations of what the show could be like. From the first song Ricky was giving it all.
The show was very entertaining and well paced - I really enjoyed the male solo dance from one of his troupe dancers as well as the solo guitar performance. All the dancers, male and female, were on top form, as were his musicians.
The fact that Ricky has now 'come out' meant that the show was well attended by the gay community but there wasn't a big deal made of it. Infact, the show had 'candy' for whichever camp you belonged to! Some of the acts were quite risque and refreshingly better for it.
It was nice that he went over the old favourites but with new arrangements and choreographies. It was a polished performance, but Ricky also made it a bit more personal in the end when he came back for an encore. You could really feel the energy he was giving to the audience (and that we were giving back to him!)
The fact that he has a great 'live' voice was a revelation and gave me all the more reasons to respect and admire what Ricky has achieved over the years, despite all the jealousy and prying into his personal life.
A fabulous show.
P.S. Hammersmith have gone overboad in terms of the door opening times - they once again gave absolutely no indication of when the show might start after that. which meant that, especially for those of us who were there on time, the wait was over 2 hours long! They could have well collected their snack and drink money in 30/40 minutes, but 2 hours of listening to rave dance music felt like an utter disrespect for the audience.
