There were glimpses of the old Hancock magic and the undoubted skills of his support artists-- but too much concentration on "experimental tracks" from his recent Imagine album , were not what we'd come to hear. I also feel the combination of the excellent accoustics of the Bridgewater Hall, and the array of large speakers probably set up for a different venue, did not work very well- at many points the female singer's voice was drowned by electronic bass.

Herbie was great, really enjoyed, however, he could have catered more for those of us who loved his disco / electro moments in the 79-83 era. Nevertheless, he showed what a wonderful musician he was focusing on his jazz style.

just to see Herbie Hancock live was so special, Lang Lang was brilliant too and what a great contrast. What a shame it had to end !! Brilliant Well done

Not knowing what to expect from the pairing of Herbie Hancock and Lang Lang, what started as an impulse gig turned into one of the highlights of 2009. Lang Lang's exquisite playing, Hancock's impetuous improvisations and the superb Philharmonia Orchestra under John Axelrod, it was a night to be savoured. I can’t believe there weren’t camera’s there to capture this performance. Look forward to Lang Lang appearing in Royal Albert Hall in 2010.

This show was actully quite good but not what I was expecting, this should have really been titled as Lang Lang featuring Herbie Hancock.
Although they were playing together for most of the time, very little of Herbie's signature Jazz influence was showcased, Lang Lang managed to to take up most of the show with influential classical scores.

However I''m not a big classical fan but this would be recommended to people of this genre but will enlighten Jazz fans to hear Herbie have a triumphant go at classical music!
