Second time I've seen the Hip, second great show. The atmosphere was fantastic, with all those Canadians - though as my Canadian wife said, it seems weird to be at a Hip show and not smell any pot....
The performance was really, enjoyable, most of the old favourites with a few interesting new songs. Still, as someone who doesn't really know most of the songs, I enjoyed it immensely and would be back for a third time, next time.

From the chilled out opener "Courage" to the rocking "Little Bones" Gord and company owned the Garage just like they do any venue.
The band began acoustically with three classic tracks around "Coffee GIrl", only one of two tracks played from their current album (perhaps there's been no formal release in the UK?) When the crowd sang along with "Wheat Kings", you could be forgiven if you thought you were nestled in some prairie bar in the middle of a Saskatchewan winter.
Over too quickly--I hope they make Scotland a regular stop on their European tours, as I had to journey to London last time to see them play.

This was the first time the Tragically Hip had visited Scotland for quite some time, and from the off, they seemed determined to make up for lost time, with a set which delved deep into their extensive history, as well as showcasing the high notes from their recent releases. From the start with New Orleans is Skinking, right through to the Little Bones finale, Gord Downie and the rest of the band put on a show which belied the humble surroundings of The Garage in Glasgow.
With no support band, The Hip took to the stage pretty much bang on 7:30, and when they left it at around 10:15, there was a sea of satisfied customers, including what at times felt like every Canadian in Glasgow! After the first hour, the band took a 15 minute break (ideal for a trip to the bar!) and then returned for a mini accoustic set (the accoustic version of Wheat Kings was stunning), before plugging everything back in to storm their way through the rest of the set.
Here's hoping it's not as long before they return!

What a night. Gordon Downie gave us everything he had and then some. The band hit the bullseye so many times that the target disintegrated. Mr. Downie is a truly great showman and the best frontman I have ever seen.

the Hip were sensational. arrived there at 7:30 and they were on stage no support act which allowed them to play 25 unmissable songs. they started of with courage. then played a further 9 or 10 songs then they took a break. time for me to reflect on what i just heard and discuss to my friends how awsome that was. the hip were back and started of with an acoustic set of 4 songs. then kicked back into the rock that they play so well. gordon downie was on great form he was so entertaining and funny. he'd make funny we remarks here and there. and he was a joy to watch. the tragically hip was the best gig yet. 10 out of 10.

The Tragically Hip made one of their rare visits to the UK, and played at the Glasgow Garage last night. The small venue, pretty full, was a great place for the band to reach out to the audience and engage them in the gig. Not that it was too hard, given the number of die-hard supporters(not all of them Canadians!), singing along in word-perfect accompanyment. Downie was a mad-cap front-man, part singer and part actor, who quite literally sweated for his art. His routine of mopping his brow, and then finding inventive ways to throw the cloth into the crowd, is obviously well known among the faithful, as is his supreme disrespect for microphones and stands.
But what cuts through the engaging antics are three things: great, solid musicianship from the band; genuine passion from Downie (typified by his rant at the audience when someone objected violently to a Canadian flag getting in his line of sight); and what seemed an honest desire to make the audience part of the gig. Not just the singalong, but a feeling that you were part of something special. 'We want you to feel welcome' was the message from the band - and we did.
The Hip are not to everyone's taste, but if you like mainstream music delivered with a twist, they are for you.

I've waited a long time to catch The Hip - nearly 20 years! It was well worth the wait. Two sets lasting well over 2 and a half hours in total. The roof nearly came off Glasgow Garage with the thunderous applause!

Here's the thing................................I am Canadian, live in Glasgow, and love it when Canadian bands play here, like Barenaked Ladies, who i see everytime, and its usually amazing, but something left me cold with the Hip! Back home they sell out the Air Canada centre, and i admit i have not bought a hip album since 93! But was excited all the same to go last night! I just wished they had played a lot of the older stuff for the older fans, like more off of up to here, and road apples! Top marks for doing almost 2 and a half hours, i dont know i just expected more from Kingston's finest!

Words find it hard to describe another amazing night with the Hip.
I don,t think Gord will ever get to old to entertain, man he parades about like a teenager giving his all and the rest of the guys compliment him with their energetic display of sheer classic music.

The venue was at the Garage in Glasgow, not the biggest of venue's but hey don't knock it, the venue holds about 300/400 people but no way was there that many there. It was almost like having the band in your own front room.
How cool is that! The gig started about 8pm with NEW ORLEANS IS SINKING, then something off the new album then it was like a greatest hits and going from new to old and back again.
They played for about 45mins to an hour, before finishing off with the slower and softer side to the band's music.
After about 30min break the hip come back with Gordie in a dryer set off clothes and four acoustic songs which everyone who's a fan sang along with.
They must of played nearly a song of each album apart from the first album which was apity but in the end when you've seen them, ( and boy how long have i waited to see them) your in orr of the tragically hip!
With the stage presence of Gordon Downie the talent of the rest of the band's playing and backing vocals, what more can i say then they leave you wanting more.
So now lets round up the evening, one of the most entertaing bands i've seen in so long.
I was privileged to be apart of the evening.and boys if you read this if you ever need anyone to wipe GORDIES brow then i'm your man.. also i wud like to add, it certainly maid up for the time you canceld cardiff! excellent night everyone go see checkout ...

The Tragically Hip proved themselves to be the music lovers they are. Free-flowing, natural, perfect songs were gifted to the audience, as well as a fantastic rant following a fight which had broken out near the front - but poetically delivered! As one of the only non-Canadian fans, I urge the rest of the UK and the rest of the world - give the Hip a chance. I always suspected they would sound incredible live and I was not disappointed.

Just saw the Tragically Hip last night in Glasgow at the Garage.
What an intimate venue to see an iconic Canadian Band.
I wasn't sure what to expect as it had been a good 10 years since I saw the Hip in Canada. They were brilliant and the concert was really enjoyable. Gordon Downie is
a great performer as well as very funny entertainer.
All I can say is the Hip are a great band to see live and they never fail to impress.
Well done guys!!

My only other experience with the Hip live was in Toronto at the Amphatheatre 5-6 years ago. I thought Gord was an amazing entertainer then, and I would agree with that statement now. I find it incredible that a band that has been around for as long as they've been can keep belting out their classics, and entertaining the crowd. My first instict was to think that Gordon Downie is a nutter, however after some retrospect, I'm certain he puts some of it on for the crowd.
To see the Tragically Hip at a smaller venue was an absolute treat, and to hear so many other Canadian accents was an absolute bonus. In my opinion, it would be near impossible to see the hip at a venue like the Forum anywhere (including the territories) in Canada, so I count myself lucky.
Great Venue
