I have seen the Pet Shop Boys live a few times and have never been disappointed, but this gig at the magnificent O2 arena was mind blowing! The stage set was stark white with bright flashes of colour, giant cubes and video projections to match each song eg/ New York skyscrapers during 'New York city boy' (During which Chris Lowe emerged from behind his sound desk to dance with dancers dressed as skyscrapers!) and Dusty Springfield during 'What have I done to deserve this?'.
Neil Tennant's voice is superb and sounds exactly as it does on their CD's, he was note-perfect. The dancers were incredible, especially during 'Jealousy' which culminated in the male and female dancer throwing giant cubes at each other. I think that the production by Stuart Price (of Les Rythmes Digitales) is a prefect match for the Pet Shop Boys, with classic songs like West End Girls enhanced by Mr Price's house/dance influence. I lived how one song would merge into another - Domino Dancing/Viva La Vida by Coldplay was a big highlight and the song is on their Christmas EP. My sister and I danced our socks off and had sore throats from singing along to every track!
Dont just think about seeing PSB's live - DO IT!! They are one band you need to see live in your lifetime and their broad appeal was plain to see by the complete mix of people there
