This event cost £137 (may have been cheaper for an earlier booking but it was not possible for myself and colleagues to book any earlier).
Myself and 2 colleagues attended last year and because we enjoyed last year and got a lot out of the day, we thought we would attend this year.
What I am looking for having spent £137 is value for money. I don't think the day provided that.
The seats we had in block C provided a poor view of the screen which was not 100% visible. Could we not have had smaller screens at the side?
It was a disappointing day from the start. HRH Princess Anne was an attendee and billed as a headline "act" but we never saw her and she didn't speak. We couldn't see her from our seats. So not sure what the point of her being there was!
Digby Jones was by far the best speaker of the day (fly issue aside) and spoke fluently and entertainingly for probably 45 mins, no notes and no prompts, an excellent speaker with an interesting topic.
Tessa Jowell was someone that I had looked forward to hearing and I found her subject matter very valid and interesting but she was not a great speaker! Every other word was an "uhm" which was amazing for such a high profile politician.
The schools update was interesting and an enjoyable film to which, as a parent of a child at high school, I can relate to. But the project itself sounded pretty shambolic with some very basic learning points having been recorded!!
The day went down hill after that.
Tea and coffee were £2.50 each - plus a cost for pastries etc - and for an event which costs £137 I would have thought tea/coffee/snacks could have been included. And lunch.
The ETER presentation was interesting but not entirely sure of the relevance except it is a large project. The speaker had zero charisma and gave a very matter of fact presentation.
Clearly there had been a dropout presenter because of the hurricane Sandy in the US and the UK president of PMI made a plea for more volunteers as a backup speaker which was OK for a fill in.
The theatre group - no clue what the relevance of the knife crime film. Enjoyed the live theatre act but improvisation, for me, is getting a bit old hat.
So as a summary - did I get value for money? No. Did I enjoy the day? No - it wasn't as good as last year. Shame. I won't be booking again next year.
