I went to see Abba Forvever last weekend and I thought I should write a review after reading other peoples thoughts on them.
I recommend Abba Forever, they were definatly live, which In all honesty, Is a breath of fresh air as far too many are miming, and have far too much on track. I go to the theare alot, I am a regular goer, and have seen alot.
The show, all in all, looks fantastic on the eye, the lighting and scenery which includes a wonderful mirror ball! The sound was good In places, but on certain songs, were too loud, and not very well balanced between vocalists, mostly the ballads such as Chiqitita, I found It quite difficult to hear the Brunette and the other people on stage, but mostly Benny, Bjorn I could hear coming through.
The musicianship of them all, well, 10 out of ten to say the least, instruments all played well and with enjoyment, and even though they are playing live, they still amazingly have alot of energy to move- especially the girls!
The show went on for I would say about 2 hours and It included all the hits and afew of the not so well known numbers, which were a pleasure to hear, such as Eagle and a instrumental In the second half.
I would have to say, that they all played their roles very well, however I will say afew things- Benny needs to speak out when he talks, which Is not alot, and It Is difficult to make out what he was saying at times, Bjorn does need to work on the accent for he spoke In a very nothern manner more often than Swedish. The two girls, were fantastic to watch, and indeed hear, how they manage to perform like that for the entire duration, I do not know! They both played the roles of Freida and Agnetha very well, however, as I have said before, at times I do not think that the vocals are balanced In certain numbers. The Brunette sometimes strayed from the Swedish accent, but always recovered near enough straight away, she used alot of the "WACKEY" characteristics that Freida had, comical faces, and sharp looks and the sound of her voice, but also looked as If It was completely effortless, very elegent to watch, and you could not help but to. The blonde had a fantastic believable accent which she held throughout the performance. The ballads that she sang, were done very well and It was great to hear them sung with the band live and with passion. However, I did not think that the way she danced was true to Agnetha and not appropriate at times In the show. Although the facial expressions were quite uncanny to Agnetha, perhaps the provocative and raunchy dancing, should be less so!
The dialect between them all was second to none.
Altogether, ABBA FOREVER Is highly recommended.
DO GO, AND DANCE ALL NIGHT LONG- I SHALL!
