From the arrival Wednesday in the car park, the party atmosphere was palpable, rockers, goths, skaters and everyone else inbetween, all together for one reason, to rock!
Finding a suitable campsite and room to set up being all part of the fun, and at the end of a long day, settling down to sleep knowing that Friday could very well be the start of the best weekend of your life!
Finally the big first day comes, bringing such heavyweights as Mötley Crüe, Limp Bizkit and of course, the pulse pounding Faith No More, rocking us all to our cores to finish us off for that amazing night. We knew then, bruised and battered from hardcore pitting and wrestling our way to the front in such an immense crowd, what we had really let ourselves in for.
It all kicked up into the next gear the next day, Auger Bane, No Americana, The Crave and Tom 'Ripper' Owens to start us off, having our a**es handed to us on silver platters all the way through to The Blackout, Anvil, The Prodigy (Amazing!) And of course on the main stage, Pendulum whirling the crown into a frenzy, Marylin Manson was, well, Marylin Manson, and, after so many hours of waiting and trying to hold a place in the crowd, it was time, for Slipknot, to emerge in the fading daylight hours, headbanging and rocking us into the late night, with their heavy riffs and legendary drum beats still pounding in our ears all night.
The final day came round on a very early start to rush down to get a good spot for some breakfast for our stomachs and a feast for our ears as Stone Gods come to destroy the stage in the morning, followed in ever increasing heaviness by Tesla, Skin and the incredible Black Stone Cherry. Journey inspired the crowd with their flawless power-rock, and Dream Theater next to shake us all back out of our trance. Then it was off to the Tuborg stage for the unmissable Steel Panther, and coming back to catch the last few chords of the ever epic ZZ Top as the 'Classic Rock' night revs its engine to send us steaming into Whitesnake, epic as ever, making the swaying crowd feel like one big family together for one purpose, to salute the gods of rock with their fists in the air. And for the final treat, the unstoppable, the almighty Def Leppard, to send us on home, happy, satisfied, and completely and thoroughly fulfilled.
Overall, an astounding 5 days, I would definately recommend everybody tries it, and as for me and my friends, we're coming back next year without a doubt, and bringing everybody who hasn't experienced it with us!

A fantastic time was had by all in attendance. Faith no more, Chris Cornell and Billy Talent were my top 3 for the event, but they were sandwiched by tons of other fantastic acts. You couldn't fall over without landing on a great song. The crowd was great, the event was brilliantly organised and I would recommend this to everyone. Even you!

The whole weekend was truly AMAZING. This was the best DOWNLOAD ever, from start to finish. The atmosphere was unbelievable, and the postion for the new arena can't be faulted. There was a good mixture of differing genres of rock which catered for all types of rock fan, from light to brutal, old to new, and all put in good to excellent perfomances. My top three bands from the weekend were Shinedown, Motley Crue, and the mighty SLIPKNOT. SLIPKNOT put in one truly amazing performance, and one which I think won't be bettered by any band for a long time to come. They did not faulter for one minute with their relentless brutal onslaught of all your senses. They are truly an awesome band with great songs, and an awesome stage act. Corey Taylor is probably the best front man in metal today without question. I have to give special mention to Steel Panther (who just missed out on my top three by a whisker. They were not only extremely funny, but also very adept musically. They had us all in stitches constantly with their quick witted humor. All in all the festival organisers can pat themselves on the back for getting the mix of entertainment perfect, which they haven't done for the past few years. I hope that next year the will get the mix right, and book the acts that deserve to be headliners, unlike the last two years in which they got bands that weren't good enough to headline a major festival such as DOWNLOAD.

my wife and i went with a freind for the first time last year to see KISS, we had an amazing time and we all decided to go back this year, this time with more freinds and more bands we wanted to see. we were not dissapointed. we arrived on the thursday and got a great camping spot for all of us together, on the friday i think korn was by far the best band and totally blew faith no more away with general stage presense and performance, have to say even as a FNM fan, they were more than a little dissapointing, no stage presense and bad attitude. sat was awesome, chris cornell was excellent and the prodigy just get better everytime i see them they were definetly the band of the weekend for my freinds and i. sunday was nice and chilled and it was great having all those classic rock bands finish the weekend off. journey and zztop have been favorites of mine for many years! well done on such a great festival, will be going back next year.

This was everybody's first festival in the entire group and everybody went away absolutely loving the whole atmosphere and feel of the festival. The variety of bands was just incredible (with everyones favourites being limp bizkit, slipknot, the prodigy and zz top) their was really something for everyone. We will definitely all be attending next year regardless of line-up.

As a veterain of festivals in general & Donnington especially, I was so disappointed by the line-up last year that I almost never went to '09-boy would I have been sorree?
Faith no more! Slipknot!! Killswitch! Down! Devildriver! etc etc!
The weather & atmosphere were as usual (both hot!) but the line-up really has to be up there (overall) with the all time greats in Donnington history.
Highly recommended to everyone, friendly, fun & heading heavier (as for a while it was getting a little worrying with too much blandness}!!

This was my second download and I have to say it was pretty sweet. Most of the guards were really helpful and thing were relitivly easy to find. The bands were pretty good (until sunday) in my eyes.
Some problems were: the water ran out on 2 days.
There were only 2 places to get water
There was an international airport next door
It took an hour to walk to the stages
other wise if the bands are better than they were this year I will go next year

We'll be back next year. What more need I say =P
So many great bands to keep us stomping and head banging all weekend - needed my neck massaging when I got back :-D
Loved Devil Driver's huge mosh pit!! Korn and Slipknot both fab.
Marylin Manson seemed like he needed to get back to rehab n Whitesnake, once again, bored the life outa me so I went shopping. Disappointing coz both of em can be real good sometimes. Err, where was the Queen of Darkness store this year? :'(
Shame that the 2 main stages were running at the same time, coz we missed lots of stuff by being forced to choose. Sonisphere did it different, and although they didn't get it perfect, it meant we saw much more.
Wicked music, fab atmosphere, great crowd, lovely weather and to top it all, we managed to avoid queueing too long to get outa field on Sunday night!!!
Was funny pretending to break down on the skinny single track lane on way out Sunday night LMAO!!!! If you was behind us that night, soz, but gotta admit it was funny, eh?
Once again, we lived on the free mullerlite rice :o)

As a festival virgin I bought a weekend camping ticket for Download and spent part of Wednesday and Thursday there before the bands started, chilling and having fun.
The line up was good, more diverse I think than previous years, which is what prompted me to go. Dance, classic rock, and metal... good stuff! Most of the performances I saw were amazing, only one or two disappointing (Manson.. what were you doing?!)
The shops etc were organised well and there were plently of little activities to take part in.
I had a fantastic time and would recommend it to anyone, even if you aren't that 'into' metal.

It never ceases to amaze me how, despite thinking "that was the best ever" at the end of each Download weekend, come the following year Download kicks its own behind again!
I went to 2009 6 months pregnant and, every steward I came across was courteous, friendly, helpful and top notch!! They made the whole experience feel safe and comfortable - a big help when you've got a huge bump and it's over 25 degrees c!!
My only concern was the lack of drinking water taps available in the arena site - there simply weren't enough for the size of the crowd.

I go to download almost every year but I missed it in 2008 when there were some changes to the arena location. Due to moaning motor sports fans the arena is no longer located on the race track which is no biggy apart from the fact that the camp site locations have not been moved also.
The result is a 40 minute hike from the camp site to the arena. So you can't just pop back and forth for things like top ups on sun tan lotion or a quick bite to eat. With the heat and total lack of cover in the arena this lead too many cases of sun stoke and sun burn and blisters from the hike.
I did miss a few bands on the Saturday as I was too hot and couldn't face the hike to the stages after a heavy nights drinking on the Friday.
The layout of the main and second stage was bottle necked and it took quite a while to get to the main stage. Also because of the location of both the main and second stage it was impossible to hear one stage without the other unless you were in front of the one you wanted to see dead centre.
The last gripe I had was the lack of pyrotechnics. Other than led lights and foggers there were no effects what so ever. All the other years I have been to Download the head liners had some pretty awesome displays. I'm guessing this too has now been banned for what ever reason.
Still I went there for the bands and I did get to see some of them despite the problems getting to the stages and I did get to hear most of them despite the poor layout and setup of the stages.
There were a few good points to be said about the event this year. The abandonment of the poopits in favour of portaloos was a great idea. They were still not great to use but far better than a metal box over a pit of £$%^ !!
The next great idea was the dominos pizza van selling proper pizzas on site. It was fab and tasted like a normal dominos apart from the fact they didn't have jalapenos’ which is a favourite of mine.
In a nutshell, it was good for the bands and the length of the event. But I would not recomend this for disabled, younger kids, people with medical problems. I don't think it had the same spark it had a few years ago.
I'm hoping they will move the camp sites next year and change the layout of the stages. That would sort out most my issues with it.

Another great year at Download Festival ! I booked my ticket pre-sale after having such a great time and the line-up didn't dissapoint. All of the bands I saw were just fantastic, with a great range of artists and styles. Despite some clashes with big acts the organisers managed to still put on an excelent festival the really suited everyone there. The village was full of things to do after the festival hours and all the people were having a good time. In typical festival style everyone was like-minded and out for a good time, only adding to the already buzzing atmosphere. Download is a truly amazing weekend and I for one cannot wait until next year.

Not as good as last years but it still rocked! Slipknot were the best getting everyone to sit down then jump.
