One can tell that being for 50 years in the business makes a difference. Not only are the members of the Orquestra Buena Vista Social Club very talented musicians, they also know how to animate and entice the crowd. Most impressive was Omara Portuondo, who at 80 was dancing on the stage while singing impeccably.

Uplifting - exactly what I needed after a few very stressful weeks at work. I felt myself getting emotional at times. Heart warming connection between band and audience. I feel privileged to have been a part of this event and to have seen so many legends live. Still think it's one of the most amusing sights to see English people trying to move to Latin rhythms but fair play to them - they should enjoy themselves.

What do you get when you combine a group of Cuban OAPs, some musical instuments, and infectious enthusiasm?
A performance that would shame some much younger muscians for its vibrance, exuberance and sheer quality. The Oxford audience warmed to the BVSC over the evening, and were on their feet by the end, dancing and joining in. Star of the show, Omara Portuondo, charmed her way to our hearts and encouraged everyone to participate. She may now look her age a little more (80!) but her voice and breath control were wonderful.
The other musicians exhibited their virtuosity with almost casual ease, and there were some fantastic showpiece solos.
It was a privilege to hear the band; one suspects that their next tour may not feature the same lineup, as several members are now elderly. Truly a memorable occasion.

I went with friends. Other friends went as well. The music was beautiful, but the gentle rhythms and soaring vocals that I remember from the film were destroyed by the fact that the volume of the amplifiers was turned up so high that it hurt our ears - all of us.

This is not the first time that I have had a concert at the New Theatre completely spoiled by excessive volume. I do not have the same experience elsewhere.

I will not go to the New Theatre again.

An amazing evening.
I felt absolutely privileged to be sat so close to such talented, happy and infectious musicians. Ranks as one of the top 2 musical events I have ever seen- the other being the Wailers on tour. I will never ever forget the experience. They are beautiful people.

Buena Vista Social Club featuring Omara were fantastic. It was brilliant to witness such great musicians, who are still as tight and together as they always have been. Omara was captivating and soon had the crowd on their feet joining in. The brass section were entertaining, with their footwork routines and amazing playing. what a lovely sound. It was sweet! it was well worth the 6hr return trip to come and see them.

What was a shame was that the Edinburgh playhouse had so many empty seats- personally it would have been much better to charge half the tickets price and have the place full- Maybe it's time to review pricing.

Without Omara Portuondo this would have been an entirely disappointing gig. It lasted approximately two hours and the lady herself was on stage for about half an hour (maybe sang 5 songs then 2 encores). She is 80 and she is BRILLIANT but as a gig it just didn't live up to expectations.
We were told our seats were being upgraded and were actually given cheaper seats with worse view!
