It was a great night for young and old Billy Fury fans. The theatre was packed and everyone was on their feet at the end of the show. It was nice to see the show again, it has changed since I saw it last 5 years ago. Lots of new songs and different versions of songs. The Furys Tornados are very good artists in their own right and with Colin Gold's voice it makes the show complete. The Tornados tell you the story of Billy Fury, what it was like to work and perform on stage with him and of course his ill health and how it came about that they saw Colin perform on Stars in Their Eyes and asked if he would consider going on tour with them. It includes all Billy's big hits, like, Halfway to Paradise, Jeauosly, It's Only Make Believe, In Summer and Devil or Angel and also not so well know ones like Nothing ShakinBut the Leaves on the Trees and Forget Him. The band sign autographs after the show and the Dvds of the show are fantastic, they include lots of bonus tracks not shown in the show.

We bought tickets for this show thinking that it would probably be a Musical, or maybe, a tribute to the great Billy Fury. What it was in fact, was an insult to his memory. There was no "story", just a very poor narrative that was fragmented and hard to follow. The "artiste" that attempted to imitate Billy's style was second rate to say the least. I actually find it extremely difficult to put in to words what I really thought of him without being offensive, so let me just say; Billy Fury was a young, slim, vibrant and talented performer whose life was tragically cut short at the age of just 43. The person who was attempting to sing his songs was none of these. In fact it was quite comical to see this elderly gentleman adopting Billy's stance and actions!!! Some of this could have been overlooked if his singing voice was up to standard, in fact it was pathetic!! Suffice it to say we left during the interval in disgust at this Show, which, as I stated above, was an insult to Billy's memory.

We went back to our teens on Monday night ,if you closed your eyes you could have been transported back to the fifties & sixties , we forget what a great group the Furies were fantastic rythym & slick movement even now , and Eric on the keyboards was outstanding .

This is not a play with music about the life of Billy Fury. It is his original backing band from the 70s - a group of seasoned and very acomplished musicians - fronted by Colin Gold as the late Billy Fury. Gold had appeared on TV's "Stars In Their Eyes" as Fury and was spotted by the band who were planning to go back on the road. They asked him to join as "Billy" and they've now been together for 14years.
As a lookalike Gold needs to be taller and slimmer but he more than makes up for it with his well mastered mannerisms and, of course, the famous quiff! His voice was excellent and he got through a tremendous amount of material.
The "story" is really a commentary of key events in his career illustrated with back projection archive material and more recent footage of the band. As a piece of theatre it works very well.

It started rather slowly and the first half was just a little disappointing. The second half was fantastic, though, and more than made up for it. A must for Billy Fury fans.

I really enjoyed the show, I love Billy Fury music and thought that Colin Gold did a very good impression of him. The Tornados are still extemely good musicians. The backdrop of Billy himself was also lovely.

I paid for 2 tickets to go and see *The Billy Fury Story* as a present for myself and my friend from Doncaster, we went to Whitley Bay Playhouse, on arriving we were met by a very friendly member of staff, asking for our tickets, on noticing we were in the front row, he became to tell me he was in the front row at St James Park at Newcastle many years earlier to see Freddie Mercury and Queen
We found our seats without any bother, and settled down for the start of the show, I found the show fantastic, and very interesting, as I was just a little to young at the time when Billy Fury was in his hay day, I found out lots of information I didn't know before, especially from the band members and lead singer, but best of all for me was the music, the songs all his great hits and many more
Before we left the same member of staff who greeted us, came and asked if we enjoyed the show
The band members also came into the Foyer to sign autographs
I can honestly say we had a brilliant night, and if you get the chance go and see this show, a must for all Billy Fury fans
