Our family has been avid Wiggles fans since my elder daughter (now 8) was 3. My son who is 2 just LOVES them. We have been to see them a number of times both in Glasgow (Royal Concert Hall) and, as this concert, the Edinburgh Playhouse.
The Wiggles always put on an entertaining show but, if I'm being honest, I was disappointed with the production values of this one - it just all seemed a bit slap dash and didn't have the wow factor of previous shows. The finale in particular was a huge let down. At other shows we've seen long medleys of favourite songs being belted out by the band and audience - huge fun! This time it was so abrupt - 'this is our last song - thanks for something' and then, boom, off stage, end of show. No encore, no nothing.
As for calling it the Greatest Hits this was a bit of a misnomer - a lot of the songs were newer ones which just don't have the same dance-along-ability.
The yellow Wiggle, Sam, felt like a bit player - just wheeled out to do the singing with Anthony and Murray doing most of the audience interaction. Sam is nice enough but just doesn't have the personality that Greg had. Greg's voice was also so much more suited to the style of singing. At many points it was hard to actually hear the words Sam was singing - although this may have been a sound issue.
We have always left Wiggles shows full of energy and fun, this time there was very much a feeling of 'was that it'. That said, my son has not stopped talking about seeing them and shaking Jeff's hand so it would fair to say he had a whale of a time. However the rest of us able to make comparisons just felt it was all a bit lacklustre - sorry Wiggles, we love you but know you can do SO much better.
A final comment - we bought my son a tee-shirt for the princely sum of £15. The transfer on it is truly appalling. It has either not been printed properly or of is a really bad quality. Totally not worth the money.
