Having seen this band three or four times over the past 20 odd years, I was somewhat apprehensive as to whether they could stand the test of time. The line up looked mostly familiar, with Roger Brown the original lead vocalist, Trevor Lock and Dave Fusaro capably sharing the lead and rythmn guitar duties, and the 'newcomers' being Dave Chapman (keyboards), and his brother Colin (bass), and Trevor's brother Rob Lock on drums, completing the line up.
Despite the disappointing turn out in a tiny theatre near Blackburn, all credit must go to these guys for putting 100% enthusiasm into two very demanding sets of almost one hours duration each side of a 20 minute break, and they did not disappoint the audience which I suspect had a small band of devotees and others possibly curious as to whether they could be a credible tribute to the mighty Queen.
One or two numbers seem to be stretching vocal cords to their limits, which I suppose is what happens to all performers as the years take their toll, and at the risk of losing the impact of some of those higher notes, a drop of half a tone in key may make the vocals a little less worrying in certain songs. However, what cannot be criticised is the musicianship of all the instrumentalists, notably keyboard maestro Dave, and the evergreen Trevor.
The line up work hard, give excellent value for money, and certain numbers are exceptionally true to the originals, and their attention to detail on vocals and instrumentals has to be applauded.
Of the many Queen tributes I have seen, I would put these guys in the top three, hopefully, they can maintain this high standard as time moves on.
