With exciting hints of potential guest stars, these tickets went on sale at a high price, and were unsurprisingly quickly snapped up. Ultimately though, the show spectacularly failed to deliver.
For other SCP shows, the guest list of people leading sections was impressive: John Fogerty, Stevie Nicks, ...
Whilst one might not expect exactly the same line up every show, it did not seem unreasonable to think that similarly big named people involved with the project (possibly those with UK links: Motorhead, Paul McCartney, ...) would be performing
Instead, we got an hour of random bald blokes as the start of the show, followed by some punk by numbers. The Cheap Trick section had the potential to be good, but this was largely ruined by having someone who cannot sing as lead vocalist... Rick Springfield was the only section which truly impressed.
Perhaps the most disappointing bit, was the introduction to the 'punk section'. Various band names were dropped by Grohl, to get the crowd excited: Black Flag, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys. "That's more like it" we thought... and eagerly waited for Henry Rollins, HR, Jello Biafra, or perhaps all of the above to charge out onto the stage, and get the show started properly. Instead, we got some bloke called Lee Ving from a band called Fear, who hardly anybody (nobody?) seemed to have ever heard of. Fail.
Having 'the guys from Nirvana' there was 'nice', but would have been better if they'd done something for which they were known (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, I'd even have settled for some Sweet 75(!)). Having someone famous just strumming along in the background to someone else's song doesn't really do it for me...
I would strongly advise people to think twice about paying a lot of money to see this show, if it is being held anywhere outside of the US, where most of the big name guests are based, meaning they might actually turn up...
