I had so much fun watching Amparo at the Jazz Cafe...she has an amazing voice and her songs are beautiful so I was already looking forward to seeing her in action in an intimate perfomance...but the band, they added to an already great recipe! Accompanied by the grand piano, trumpets, electric guitar and a cello performance to make the hairs on the back of your neck stick up...the Cuban/Salsa element of her album really came out. But most of all Amparo and the band seemed to be having lots of fun up there. Great atmosphere and great interaction with crowd.

Amparo told the crowd that all of the songs on Tucson-Habana were written from the heart, which was evident from the passion with which she sings them live.
Largely downtempo, soulful soaring melodies combine with Latin/folky instrumentals you'd expect from a collaboration with Calexico. This was much less energetic than the last time I saw her with Amparanoia, but as a big fan I was pretty much mesmerised from start to finish.
The supporting act, Fran and Josh, are two young guys smashing a ridiculously high-energy flamenco/ska/fun fusion out of their guitars. The lead singer looked like he was having a great time and it's impossible not to be entertained by that sort of thing!

Although a bit more low-key from the last time I saw Amparo Sanchez (Amparanioa), she is such an energy-charged performer and beautiful singer. The band was also amazing - highly gifted musicians. Also I liked the Jazz Cafe as a venue because of its small size and intimacy.
