The Unthanks,Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band and York Minster,what better way is there to spend a friday evening? A super performance from everyone and the sea shanty the girls did was sublime. Thanks to all involved for a truly memorable evening.

The girls had very good voices, but the songs were so melancholic and grim. It did not help that the pianist was egocentric and was totally incompatible with the brass of the Raistrick & Brighouse Band. If you are feeling at all depressed - dont go!

It really felt like an intimate evening, perfect venue except for when people were running in and out, lovely voices, relaxed jokes and banter between band members and just coming accross as very nice people. Thought the guitaist could have sung another couple of songs, loved his voice aswell. The whole show could have gone on for a bit longer for my liking, I expect it would put too much strain on those amazing voices though.

Having bought their CDs and loved them, it was a huge treat to see the Unthanks live in the lovely venue of the Journal Tyne theatre. Their beautiful voices, perfectly in harmony and accompanied with great skill and sensitivity, just leave one amazed. Now I want to see them again!

Favourite moment: From the opening song to the very last note of the encore - all very special indeed. @
Opening act(s): Trembling Belles were v good - a bit retro - and in some ways not quite sure what they want to be - Country Joe and the Fish meet the Carpenters???? but good and lovely talented young people. @

The Unthanks are a bunch of talented lovely friendly relaxed musicians - superb instrumentation and arrangement made for a fabulous concert - it felt like a real privilege to be there.

We started to buy The Unthanks albums after seeing them on a folk Christmas special on BBC4. My husband is more of a folky than me (our joint love is heavy metal and I always thought I was more partial to American folk). I bought him the tickets for Christmas and a couple of the albums. I fell in love with Heres the Tender Coming and we recently purchased the new album Last which is also startlingly good. I was looking forward to seeing them, but I wasn't expecting the warmth, excellent musicianship and banter that I got! The support band The Trembling Bells were a real surprise - Joni Mitchell vocals with Nirvana-esque buzz saw guitars. Tremendous. And then The Unthanks playing on home turf with a lot of support for them as individuals as well as musicians. I had tears in my eyes for the majority of the songs, but especially Starless and Close the Coalhouse Door. It was a magical evening and I can say that I have been converted! Bring on the folk
