The set of this is wonderful, a proper 70s home - complete with separate kitchen. Then Jill Halfpenny saunters in, looking remarkably stunning in a skin tight, almost lime green, floor-length dress.
From that moment on, she steals the show with her portrayal of Beverly - an aspirational cliche of a 70s housewife, who likes gin and cigs and finding ways to escape her suburban boredom - in this instance, by cracking onto her neighbour's husband.
Plays starring a motley bunch of soap stars shouldn't be this good, but this one is. Former Hollyoaks actress Natalie Casey, whose portrayal of the dowdy Ang provided a laugh a minute. Add to this some top performances from Andy Nyman, Susanna Harker and Jo Absolom and you have a fun couple of hours here.
My only criticism is there was no discernible plot line per se - which meant it was more like a sitcom than a play, in the traditional sense of the word. Still, I like sitcoms.
