The poor review is not for the bands but more for the venue. Job for a Cowboy were ok - quite mainstream metal. Enslaved were awesome. Triptykon were ok, but they suffered from sound problems (i.e. someone turned the vocal up too loud so it overpowered the rest). Cannibal Corpse were brutal as usual.

However, the last minute move to the 'Library' was a terrible mistake. It was absolutely clear that there were far more people than was safe in the room. Obviously I realise that gigs get crowded, but myself and my mates all felt that the capacity in the room had been severely exceeded, and that there was a real health and safety issue.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like the venue. What I don't like is being packed in like sardines with no chance of getting to the loo or the bar. And when people are HAVING to stand on the stairs, simply because there is no further room, you know there is a problem.

It was clear that an event had been held there earlier in the day - some kind of St Patrick's Day party, and maybe they were offered more money for the rental of the big room by this - but noone should be put at risk like this. We received notification in the week before that the gig had been moved by the venue.

The gig itself was fine, but I would think twice before booking at this venue again.

Ok so the support bands weren't my bag, except I missed JFAC so no opinion there, I would have liked to see them.

Corpse came on in a flood of red light and just tore the place a new one. Highlights were I c*m blood, Unleashing the bloodthirsty and the old Hammer/stripped ending. Sound wasn't perfect but the vibe was totally mental. The most all out metal band on the plannet. What a way to let off some steam and I had plenty to let off!

A Heavy Night

A night of some serious heavy metal mayhem. Missed the first band due to being rather enamoured by the amazing Southampton Arms pub up the road but arrived in time for Enslaved who were awesome, good blast of Viking metal from the fearsome norsemen. Next up were Triptykon who were a bit lacklustre in my view. Cannibal Corpse were the main event and were as heavy and brutal as expected. Unfortunately the sound wasn't great for them in the vocal department and it was hard to make out what Corpsegrinder was singing (or growling!). Some serious headbanging stuff though and a fairly hectic mosh pit made for a good night.

Absolutely outstanding. Best concert I've been to in 4 years. Waited to see Job For A Cowboy for some time, Jonny Davy's vocals are monstrous live! Hadn't listened to an awful lot of Enslaved, but they were truly excellent. I wasn't too big on Triptykon unfortunately, but they managed to produce a good crowd response. Cannibal Corpse were completely mind blowing; was headbanging constantly throughout the entire set! Highly recommended band to see. In the words of Nathan Explosion: "Brutal."

The gig was great, had a headache the whole time, but otherwise, great, except for the first band, too loud to enjoy, that and their music sucks.
