I understand Coward is a writer from a certain period and style but even so this production lacked life and interpretation. It was everything that theatre should not be, stuffy and dull. Performances lacked any level of sub text and were as real as the dud set. I felt that not one of the actors encountered an emotion or were listening to each other. It came across too rehearsed and style over substance, this must be down to the stuffy and old fashioned direction and design.
I'm not sure if the actors had a voice coach but it was hard to catch a lot of their dialogue due to poor projection.
Overall I left disappointed and sadly in agreement with what everyone says about Kenwright's productions being shoddy and lack lustre, nothing inventive at all. Reminded me of those dreadful Agatha Christie tours.
