Having seen them in their previous incarnation as "Kid Id" at the Rhythms of the World festival in Hitchin a few years back, I have followed this band from afar with great interest, loving everything they've done. Last night, though, I was able to see them at Scala near London's King Cross and they were fantastic.
Their music is folky/poppy/not-sure-how-to-describe-it, with lyrics that are well worth listening to. Often funny, sometimes sad, frequently profound or philosophical and always to the point and eloquent. Ralph's lead vocals are spot on, conveying emotion with strength and subtlety without being overpowering or overbearing. His whole demeanour last night was one of someone not quite believing the enthusiastic response they were getting! He even looked slightly embarrassed when prompting the audience to hum along during 'Choices' - something we all happily got stuck into!
The whole band are a tight unit and positively buzz with energy and enthusiasm with a clear love of what they do. This is good, honest, unpretentious music at its best. If you get a chance, go and see them. At the very least, check them out on their web-site and/or YouTube - you won't regret it.
