Great night. Enjoyed Emotions - they performed well, but the night belonged to Barbara Mason.
Smooth, well trained and an obviously well looked after voice. Great performance.
Disappointed the event wasn't a sell out...

Missed Natural 4, but thankfully saw Barbara Mason, she was fantastic. The Emotions were ok, wouldve liked for them to sing something from their early's 80's album (my favourite) 'You're The One' However, they are still great artists and was happy that I got the chance to see them live on stage.

After Party was great.....look forward to Rare Groove 5, as I've been to all the previous Rare Grooves.....

The Emotions and Babara Mason were absolutely awsume. somehow they managed to roll back the years to rock the house. The band were fantastic too, true muscians.

A great night out, Barbara Mason was great well worth it!!

The after party was fab as usual although it finished at 1am instead of 2am a bit disappointing:-(

Barbara Mason was the star closely followed by The Natural Four although the other 3 were not old enough to be around when the group were in their prime ! The Emotions were disappointing. Without those horns in support it didn't feel all there. 7 out of 10. The band supporting all 3 acts were great. Could have done with a horn player to round it off. Good to see Greg Edwards after all this time. Loved his Jazzfm shows. Still miss those bathroom calls.That's even further back. Oh boy showing my age here (; Respect

Well, well, well................what can I say the artists were amazing, if I have that much energy when I am their age I will be a better person. The 3 substitute's that made up the rest of the Natural Four were fantastic, such young men with marvelous voices, complimented James Cross. The Emotions, top billing were beautiful in their elegance and vocal abilities. Babrbara Mason stole my heart, she moved lime it was yesterday and she sounded like her records which was a bonus for me. She is an entertainer to the upmost. Good night out with my sister-friends!

I sat in Kings Row which was nice and comfortable, but there were too many people in the (Kings Row) audience that didn't get involved and complained when others did - like singing (as instructed by the artists) and dancing, they all sat in their seats as if they were watching the TV at home - more audience participation or buy the concert on DVD!!! Live music should be an expereince, not another reason to moan!!!!

Went to the Giants of Rare Groove part II and that was brilliant. Part III was good, but part II was much better! The After Party was great. Can't wait for Part IV

Actually quite a good concert on the whole. In the main because Kenny Thomas rocked, as did Shirley Jones.

Patrice Rushen was OK, but my expectations were higher. She played most of her classics, but they were too frequently interspersed with non de script instrumentals.

Probably the worst gig I have ever been to......She came on stage looking like a school teacher.......did not sing a note for the 1st 45 minutes of the show......It is understood she is also a jazz singer, but doing a rare groove show means you sing the rare groove songs.

I am unsure if anyone had any interest in the solo performances of her so called "friends"...which went on foreverrrrr! We came to here you sing not your band!!

Then went she finally got to sing, I am sorry that voice had gone.....what a waste of time! I was bored! bored!! bored!!!

Billed as 'Rare Groove' I expected Patrice to play songs from her many albums we have all come to love and appreciate
It's true that she was billed with 'friends' but it seemed the friends took over and any chance of hearing her repotoire was long gone in the over indulgence of the sax playing that took centre stage. Don't get me wrong I love jazz but that wasn't what I went to see and she seemed totally out of touch with a very dissapointed audience
People moaned as they left.
It's been a long time since she visited and it was an opportunity missed.

Good crowd that probably weren't expecting such a musical feast, excellent all star band that played some of the best music I have heard in the last decade, although for most I think they expected a night of 80's disco..

I went I saw and I was enamoured by the sheer musical brilliance of Patrice Rushen and Friends. Her ensemble were in one word fantastic especially the Sax Player who blew the house down.
I hope she tours again in the not too distant future well worth seeing

I enjoyed the show, Kenny Thomas did all the classics and warmed the crowd up well. Shirley Jones really rocked the spot and did the classics, every track was a winner and she finished strongly. Now, I had never seen Patrice Rushen live before this gig and she's one of my all time favourite female artists, so it was great to finally see her on stage. The main problem was it was the right gig in the wrong venue and the crowd was not ready for the jazz funk she performed. I think a Jazz club would have suited her set better (people forget that she's a pianist before she's a singer). Also, It clearly states Patrice Rushen & Friends and she let her friends do their thing. Maybe she could have had a little less of the sax man's (forgot his name) songs and a little more of her own stuff. "Remind me" was a little flat (done to appease the restless crowd wanting more Patrice songs) But I still loved it, her time was short and there were technical problems with the mic's all night which was disappointing. The Dj's played the classics and it was good to see the old school faces in the place. Overall it was a good night, topped off with an autograph and picture with Patrice (shame I didn't bring her albums with me ;-) and I'm looking forward to the next one.

A little disappointed with the show. The promotion said Jones Girl featuring Shirley, when in fact it was just Shirley Jones. She was good, but she also has a solo career, so its unfair to say "Jones Girls" on the bill, Kenny Thomas done a good open act, and Patrice Rushen didn't sing enough, her act was to show off her ability in playing instruments. Next time I need to see Isley Brothers, Stephenie Mills or Anita Baker. That's real rare groove. I loved Leroy Hudson at the first show, but I'm not prepared to pay good money to see him at the next show. I think the promoters are getting a bit lazy, and I've been to every show these promoters have done. I'll now look forward to Giants of Lovers Rock. I'm sure it will be good!

After the much anticipated wait to see Patrice Rushen for the first time I was left feeling extremely disappointed. She seemed to be in a muddle about what was happening and was more enthusiastic about her band than pleasing her audience. Far too much time was given to her saxophonist, whom admittedly was extremely talented, but would have better suited at a venue like Ronnie Scotts. The crowd came to party and enjoy her dance classics but it. Seems she came to showcase her band. It seemed unrehearsed, her vocals were on backing track and she did little to try and engage the audience. She is undoubtedly a very talented musician with a great body of work but suited to staying in the studio and not on stage. What a shame.

I was seated on the left hand side of the venue and was disappointed with the positioning of the artists on stage, especially when Patrice was performing. Why did you stick her in the corner? The stage is a good size and when she was on empty. Instead I had to make do with watching her on a screen which took away the magic and purpose of paying to watch someone perform live. The whole arrangements was messy with her having to try and get up get down, turn her music sheet etc. if she was set in the middle of the stage she could have done all of that and interact with the crowd and be seen by all without too much effort. Boy I thought to myself, she must be really tired. However I did enjoy the show the artiists made sure of that. I did not realise Patrice was such a multi talented instrumentalist
