Uncaged monkeys offered a stunning amalgamation of entertainment in all its forms. Helen Arney's ukelelic stylings were delightful, her voice incredible and her lyrics hysterical. Simon Singh offered historical and technical insights into the enigma machine, set within the broader context of the human fascination with codes.
Ben Goldacre was as compelling as ever, effortlessly fusing the scientific with its social context and drawing attention to important issues of research publication regulation - a topic made far more interesting than it sounds by his inimitable style.
Adam Rutherford rounded out the first half of the show with a truly awe-inspiring film compiled of footage of all 135 NASA space shuttle missions, magnificently scored by 65daysofstatic.
A twitter-based Q&A session with Brian Cox, Goldacre and Rutherford, followed by Cox's charismatic and accessible discussion of his work at CERN taught me more than 5 years of high school science.
Tim Minchin delivered his usual sternum-snappingly hilarious music, and provided the final crescendo for the evening, accompanied by Cox on piano, with one of the more serious songs in his repertoire. Neither I, nor the four others I attended with could find a single fault with this show.
