We arrived in good mood having firstly discovered and eaten in an excellent local Chinese restaurant. I feel I've been waiting to see Leaves Eyes who I first discovered after seeing Nightwish a few years ago. Both support acts were well received but for me Leaves Eyes produced the quality performance of the evening. Clearly enjoying their rare visit to the UK, they worked hard and delivered song after song with power, beauty and clarity.
A standing only gig, it was fairly full but not so crowded that you couldn't get to the bar and back!! Academy 3 is not a big venue and facilities are rather basic. However, it's well run and the gig ran to time. If Leaves Eyes return to these shores I certainly plan to be there.

Favourite moment: When Krull was headbanging and got his really long hair caught on the ceiling. I should be so lucky to have hair that long! @

We got to the gig just after Stream Of Passion started. I'm afraid that they were a bit 'take it or leave it' as far as I was concerned although they certainly put their all into their set. I also was slightly surprised how dependent they were on a backing track.
Leaves' Eyes are very good, tapping into Norse and Viking mythology and history. Liv Kristine has a lovely, melodic singing voice which soars beautifully and is sometimes backed by the growling singing of Alexander Krull which works surprisingly well.

I'd not seen the band before (although I have a couple of CDs) and hadn't been to the Underworld before either. Underworld is a smallish venue, which means you're not too far from the stage. The ramped floor means you can get a reasonable view wherever you are, too. The most important bit though, was the sound, which was very good indeed. Leaves' Eyes were superb - as good live as they are on CD and I really enjoyed their set. The playing was superb, the vocals were great, the sound wonderful. The material was well chosen, not just being a run-through of the latest CD.
