A wonderful setting for a very British event - impeccable soldiers, a good selection of music ending with Tchaikovsky's 1812 plus fireworks, a sample of the horse 'puppets' used in War Horse, plus the exotic and romantic looking Oman Cavalry. Although the weather wasn't kind it was a great evening.

Quite a spectical on one of the few dry summers evenings in June.
We loved John Tams and Joey the Warhorse.
The Oman cavalry were a colourful sight too.
All brought to a close with the 1812 with cannon and fireworks.
Loved the whole evening apart from the welsh tenor who seemed a little off key!

A lovely evening, wish we had taken a camera as it was light enough not to need flash most of the time. The Royal body-guard from Oman were an unusual unit, beatiful horses and horsemanship, and horse-woman-ship.
Will go again another year.
Only downside was a helicopter, very noisy, circling round just overhead. Was it for security ? Coming while a solo was being sung was TOO BAD.

The weather didn't put a damper on a marvellous night. Pomp and ceremony is what Great Britain is all about and no country can do it better. A must for all.

An amazing evening that made me feel proud to be British! Having attended this event for several years I can categorically say that this was the best to date. Our military bands are the best in the world and we dont see enough of our talented musicians. My only regret is that it is not televised for the rest of the nation to enjoy and appreciate.The guards looked particularly amazing in their scarlet tunics and magnificent bearskins. The organisers of this grand event should be applauded as it must have taken many dedicated hours to produce something so spectacular. However I would like to see more of our own military bands featured rather than guests from overseas.
Lovely venue and fantastic atmosphere. I will be back again next year come rain or shine!

My wife and I with four friends had a wonderful evening at Beating of The Retreat. While we had had much wind and rain, the evening was dry - certainly needed for such an open air event! We greatly appreciated the colour, the sound, the discipline, the order and the excellent display. The addition of "War Horse", the Russians in "1812", the mounted band from Oman - added to this exceptional show. This was British at our Best and we were proud of our serving men and women who can not only do a great job in the field but present an amazing show in full ceremonial dress. Well done - all of you! The Chief Guest, Lord Coe, should have been wondering if they have got it right for the opening of the Olympics - should they have thought seriously about a display such as this? Or is "showing our military men at their best too - non PC"? How sad!

A Musical spectacular; once again; spoiled only by the several appearances of the Police Helicopter, flying low overhead (they must have realized, surely??)
The Household Division, once again, proved that it is 'Second to None'.

Absolutely amazing. Despite the rain that started as soon as we got there! And didn't stop. Makes you proud to be British , nobody does the pomp and splendour as good as us Brits. Had a lump in my throat.

Even the rain could not prevent the pure enjoyment of being privileged to have been born to a country that maintains the values and ceremonies of a monarchy that is unequalled. The true British qualities of the evening displayed how safe I feel with such a disciplined display of our forces on show.

Excellant evening out, great seats. Really enjoyed it all despite the rain. Not the best venue if you have trouble walking or with steps as all seats require you to go up about 6 metal steps. Have to be very careful when they are wet

If this is what floats your boat it was wonderful. Pomp, pageantry, colour, military precision, stirring music and the added attraction of the Omanis - so pleased you were here and so proud of you all. Warm friendly welcome from British and Omani stewards - thank you.
How well you all performed and how well horses behaved (particularly Omani horses) in the torrential rain. It may have rained on your parade but it certainly did not dampen your performance or the crowd's enthusaism.

as usual our pageantry far outweighs any other entertainment this country produces. the soldiers in attendance to help the public would be a credit to the best 5 star hotel.

I have attended Beating Retreat on many occasions and last Thursday evening was just as good as previous years and I would recommend anyone to book tickets who loves pomp and ceremony. Even though the heavens opened up and drenched everyone it did not distract from my enjoyment of the occasion.

Fantastic little known event. Special this year 'cos Jubilee. Earl & Countess of Wessex attended. 1812 Overture and fireworks finale. Soliers, horses, music and the Omani contingent amazing!
