I don't go to a lot of folk gigs and was expecting a livelier atmosphere. Perhaps the venue (a converted church) and the obvious deep regard the band are held in by their established fans meant that the performance almost seemed like a sermon. That said, there can be no doubting the great song writing and musicianship of the group, joined throughout by Miranda Sykes on double bass. Those used to a diet of easy going rock and pop songs may be surprised by the overtly political content of some songs but that doesn't detract from their appeal, particularly the haunting 'Katrina' and the vitriol of 'Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed. A great night which has encouraged me to see the band again when they play Wickham festival so I can compare the gigs.
