Booker T storms Camden!

Location:Dartford, Kent.
This was our first visit to the Jazz Cafe & we had a great evening.
The place was packed, but luckily enough we had booked a table & the food was very good.
Booker T and his band took to the stage at about 9pm and performed a rip-roaring set.
He played numerous hits including Green onions, Time is tight & Soul Limbo. Plus a lot of tracks he had played on for other well known artists, Neil Young, Bill Withers, Otis Redding & Al Green etc.
The crowd lapped it up and called him back for 2 encores.
As he left the stage and headed back to the dressing room, the great man shook my hand. This completed a great evening for me.
So a good night was had by all and we left with big smiles on our faces into the Camden
night.

The venue was fantastic, small and personal although drinks pricey!
The artist was amazing and standing just a couple feet away from him was awesome. He shock my fellas hand as he exited the stage a moment to be treasured I am sure! The show was lively and well put together and he certainly knows how to Wow his audience. Great night.

What an evening!!! The old magic was definately in Camden last night as Booker T performed not only his new songs but the old favs such as Green Onions and Soul Limbo, he also performed some of the classics which he had worked on like the classic "sittin on the dock of the bay". His band were a true credit to him and played as one as the evening hotted up with more of the amazing organ playing that Booker T is known for, the mix of new and old with a dash of rapping performed by the drummer set the toes a tapping, the hips a wiggling and the voices singing.... It was one of those gigs you would have had to have been there to have really enjoyed the atmosphere. Would I go and see him again? You betcha!

Booker T Jones has provided the backing track to life for two or three generations of music lovers, and especially soul and R & B fanatics.
His Jazz Cafe gig was right up there with the top musical experiences of a (fairly long!) lifetime.
Booker T dipped in to his long repertoire, as well as showcasing his latest album, Potato Hole, to excite, thrill and ultimately to amaze a packed venue.
His tight US based rhythm section responded to the inspiration of the 'master' to give us an evening never to be forgotten.
If YOU get the chance to hear him, be sure not to miss the genius who is Booker T!

Have seen Booker T with the MGs (+ Steve Cropper when he toured with the Animals) so was not surprised that wthout the MGs Booker like Steve would never be as great. as the original band. However the beauty of this gig was seeing him being able to stretch out of a number of instrumentals (Soul Dressing and Tine is Tight especiallly) and showed why he was such a reputation as an adaptable musician.
Going through some of the may hits he has played on,plus recent recordings; vocalising on several; and, switching between Hammond organ and 6 string bass, he delivered a very enjoyable 90 minutes set plus encores.
His band especially a very heavy lead guitarist (think Bachman Turner style) was the less enjoyable part of the set.
