I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and when at first Erik and Sly came on alone for a bit of a jam, I couldn't stop thinking of Eddy Murphy in Police Academy playing with the mic. However once the rest of the band joined them it was a fabulous mix of sounds and samples, that at times was really mesmerising. Erik did take too much of a back seat for my liking though - it really lifted when he was giving his all on the trumpet. At the end Sly started a bit of audience participation, which I found a bit cheesy. But I'd definitely go again - this is the sort of gig that I reckon is different every time you see them.

Hello,
it wasn't bad ..no .I can blame only myself for giving too much expectations.Actually I thought I would hear more of Truffaz but the prevailing one was Sly Johnson.As I am not very keen on beatbox ,I found it too boring.Though I should say he is really good at it.But I ckecked on youtube and Truffaz performed such nice pieces as:sweet mercy,yellow daffodiles,...yuri's choice and lots of others.I simply had not enough information.I like groovy,smoochy jazz.Sorry but I wasted my money and time.Just next time I am going to be more selective.

I stumbled across Eric Truffaz and Sly Johnson a few months ago. Truffaz has some excellent CDs out and I've listed to them constantly these past few weeks. But this live event was even better than the recorded stuff. Really great music from Eric and his drummer - & Sly Johnson is amazing.

They were amazing. Very good music and the 5 of us were really having a good time.
Then it came to the encore and it was this very long no-music dragged out series of heeeheee-hooohooo-aaaahahhhhh etc etc. A lot of people were walking out. We stayed hoping for more of the amazing music. There wasn’t any.
I would go and see them again, but won’t stick around for the encore. My other 4 friends agreed.

A must see!!
Eric Truffaz has again brought together some amazing musicians, for a fresh but established experience.

Erik Truffaz, Philippe Garcia, Sly Johnson. Each a master of his instrument (trumpet, drums, vocals), clearly having fun while playing for an audience. The way they effortlessly played with rhythms, melodies and harmonies was really impressive. There were at least 2 covers (Come together and Nature Boy), a few structured jazz themes, and also several improvisations. Sly Johnson is an excellent showman, very engaging with the public. Highly recommended show overall.
The only negative note: the doors opened at 7pm and the show started at 9:30pm, without opening act. Waiting a couple of hours at the Jazz Cafe was a bit pointless.
