We eagerly anticipated this gig after reviews from Radcliffe and Maconie - but although the gig was 'fun' to watch as the group look and behaviour was a little kooky, the performance was a let down to say the least.
No question on technical proficiency - they could play......but the PHB sound is confused and indifferent. Repetitive song structure broken up by a bit of acid jazz here, a bit of hippy pop there, badly supported by a weak vocal performance, and on the whole, no musical direction or inspiration: all-in-all, a bit disappointing. Would like to say they could develop and become something special, but gut instinct says this is their peak.
Re Cargo - the venue was great - very intimate and the atmosphere was charged - our first visit so we will be back in the future.
