Having danced my legs off to Modeselektor at SW4, I had high hopes to do the same that night -- it was a gift to myself for my birthday. Having arrived a bit after 10pm and discovering that Modeselektor were going to be on at 1:30am, I figured it would be an opportunity to hear some up-and-coming artists who may not be quite as good, but still I'd get my groove on and maybe get into someone new. I couldn't be more wrong. The support "artists", were clearly more interested in getting themselves on video and/or being so "experimental" that the concept of getting the crowd dancing was completely ignored. One guy would play something bearable with a beat, then once the crowd got somewhat into it, would completely change it up, with a different beat and off count, so the crowd would have to stop and figure it out again. He did this OVER and OVER for his whole set. It wasn't just bad, it was the WORST DJ'ing I have ever experienced... and each successive artist didn't improve much upon that. I've been dancing and listening to dance / electronic music for quite a long time and I love it. But after three hours of no dancing and bad DJ'ing making me feel like I've wasted my money, Modeselektor come on and start with similar beats/tunes as the previous act. I listened for 10 minutes in the hopes that they would play something awesome like at SW4, so I could forget about the last three hours of waiting, but it didn't happen, so I gave up and left. I'm sorry Modeselektor, but if you were listening to the other performers, you would have known to immediately differentiate yourselves from them, as I know you can. Horribly disappointed...
