Justin hit the Union Chapel with quite a reputation to sustain. The quality of the material on his first albums suggested we were in for a special night. Sadly he did not justify my expectations, his southern drawl making his diction difficult to comprehend and the poor acoustics in the Union Chapel causing his guitar to echo and distort. Earle did finally crack it with his best song, Harlem River Blues which closed the set, But by then he'd lost me. Judging by the standing ovation afforded him at the end I was in a minority, but I wonder if the rapturous ovation was more because he is the son of Steve.

Favourite moment: Harlem River Blues, what a pity the rest of the set failed tolive up to it. @
Opening act(s): James Walbourne, an undoubted great talent but something is not quite there with him. He was playing this sort of support gig two years ago but hasn't moved on @
