What a great way to start the weekend. Glen, Marketa & Co. were absolutely brilliant!
Upon entering St. James's we realised that we should have come a bit earlier, as most seats were taken and from numerous locations the stage was hidden behind huge pillars or the high rising wooden benches, which had me a bit worried.
We ended up sitting in the front row on the very left which at least gave us a good view of the main microphone.
After appearing on stage Glen offered anyone who had a crappy seat to sit on the floor right in front of the stage which immediately gave the whole show a friendly, laid back vibe, there was a wave of excited people rushing towards the front therefore we decided to stay put.
Starting out with songs of the new album I was immediately lost in Glen's deep and rich voice and Marketa's piano and vocal support, the accoustic in the church was great and sitting right in the middle must've been amazing. Bit jealous.
On 4 occasions the audience was asked to sing/humm simple melodies together with the band which actually sounded beautiful as well, most of the time anyway.
It was good to see that in person both Glen and Marketa seem to be just as genuine as they appeared to be in the movie for example, and I was delighted to hear a collection of the soundtrack songs towards the end of the show, just before people jumped of the seats to shower The Swell Season in their applause.
Including delicate and very powerful numbers, a beautiful violin solo and also solo perfomances by both Glen and Marketa, there was loads of variety.
This concert really brightened up my day and the lovely new album will certainly help me to get through another grey and depressing January in the Big Smoke.
